On Saturday, at the gun show in Smyrna, near Nashville, while I was present, an attendee accidentally fired his pistol into the floor, while telling gun show employees that it was unloaded. This event occurred at the entrance to the show where guns are checked and tickets taken. No people were injured but there is a gouge in the concrete floor. I am told that the bullet was hollow point. The shooter was kicked out of the show and told he was barred for life. But the gun show people do not check IDs and will have no way to prevent the man from coming in in the future, unless someone happens to recognize him.
I think gun shows are quite vulnerable to legal actions because they invite people to bring guns but do a poor job of checking to see if weapons are unloaded. It is an honor system: "Do you have any guns with you today?" If you don't want to reveal your handgun, no one will force you to do so, And there is nothing to stop anyone from loading up in the men's room.
Gun shows and firing ranges are dangerous places. Don't forget that.
