Gun Fired at Nashville Area Gun Show

On Saturday, at the gun show in Smyrna, near Nashville, while I was present, an attendee accidentally fired his pistol into the floor, while telling gun show employees that it was unloaded. This event occurred at the entrance to the show where guns are checked and tickets taken. No people were injured but there is a gouge in the concrete floor. I am told that the bullet was hollow point. The shooter was kicked out of the show and told he was barred for life. But the gun show people do not check IDs and will have no way to prevent the man from coming in in the future, unless someone happens to recognize him.

I think gun shows are quite vulnerable to legal actions because they invite people to bring guns but do a poor job of checking to see if weapons are unloaded. It is an honor system: "Do you have any guns with you today?" If you don't want to reveal your handgun, no one will force you to do so, And there is nothing to stop anyone from loading up in the men's room.

Gun shows and firing ranges are dangerous places. Don't forget that.

It's not clear what point, if any, you are trying to make. Do you want people attending gun shows to be frisked? Databases of people that attend gun shows?

Interstate highways, office buildings, construction sites, and bathrooms with tile floors are dangerous places, too.

The world has an oversupply of idiots. Always has and always will.

I'm just glad this wasn't a report of an exhibitor firing a gun. I really hate those.... :cuss:

So Drakejake: are you advocating a policy of either unloaded or *NO* weapons for attendees at gun shows?

Oleg and I just made it into the gunshow entrance when that moron let loose that .357 SIG into the floor. We were standing less than 30 feet away.

I think gun shows are quite vulnerable to legal actions because they invite people to bring guns but do a poor job of checking to see if weapons are unloaded.

The gun show people do a good job of checking the weapons at the door. It's the moron who couldn't follow the basic safety rules who is to bear the SOLE burden of responsibility here. He negligently fired his weapon, and he's doggone lucky he didn't kill or wound anybody.

Of course it's an honor system. Aren't we always complaining about all the useless gun laws on the books that the criminals don't follow?
