Ok, so I am trying to find non-steel jacketed 9x18 ammo for my mak
so that I may shoot it at outdoor and indoor ranges here in the LA area.
There are rules about using steel ammo (fire regulations for outdoor ranges and perhaps riccochet? considerations for indoor ranges).
In another forum where I posted a Q about where can I get non-steel
jacketed ammo someone posted an answer which I thought was good
but in retrospect (indeed as I was going to order it) I realize that
it may not be suitable.

It is for "brass cased" fmj. So I am newly thinking that this will not work
as the case is the part of the round that stores the "go juice", am I right?
When what I need is brass jacketed or copper jacketed.

So, assuming that I am answering all my questions here correctly,
can someone please tell me where I can get
non-steel jacketed 9x18 ammo at a decent price?

Thanks!

cheers, ab

Sellier & Bellot make 9mm Mak-90 gr, I think.

As to where in your area, go to http://www.calguns.net . I'm sure someone in your area knows a shop that stocks it (but if you mail-order it, you won't have to register your purchase, right? ;) Sportsman's Guide and Cheaper Than Dirt both carry it).

The only one I know of, other than the defensive stuff made by Horanady and Federal is the S&B!! The rest is steel cased.

I would expect that the U.S. made ammo is copper jacketed, and I think S&B is also.

Guys, ab is talking about the bullet jacket, not the cartridge case. Most of the Russian ammo has steel jacketed bullets as well as having a steel cartridge case. The bullet jacket can be easily tested with a magnet. If it is not steel, then the cartridge case material should not matter.

(If the range officer is so ignorant that he thinks a steel case is the same as a steel jacket, I have no answer except to write to a higher authority who is probably even more stupid.)

Thanks guys. After posting this last night I checked for any gun shows
coming to my area and sure enough, Crossroads of the West has one going on at the Orange County Fairgrounds this weekend.

So today, my son and I went down there (about an hour drive) and
looked around and found some Wolf copper jacketed ammo for about
50 bucks a 500 count, which I purchased.

So, hopefully it's good ammo, in any case I got something to shoot
for this week.

cheers, ab

www.dansammo.com had a Slovakian brand called PS Grand that is real nice (Justin and I split a case of it).

Brass cased and Boxer primed.

They don't have the 9x18 listed on their web site so you might want to contac them and see if they can get any more.

Check out Georgia Arms--Starline brass and Gold Dot bullets (but at about twice price of the Russian stuff). I don't know how it would compare in price to S&B, but it is cheapest "Made in America" available.

FWIW, Fiocchi (and I prefer it over S&B big time) also makes what you're looking for, but it can be hard to find.

Zundfolge, Thanks and AFAIK dansammo and Akron Armory as well as makarov.com are all out of the PS Grand 9x18 for some time now.
Question though re the PSG - are the bullets copper/brass jacketed?

jc2, Thanks. Fiocchi is what I use normally as the bullets are brass or
copper jacketed, however at around $13-14 for 50 rounds it's on the high side.

At the gun show I could of picked up the Seller&Bellot for around $8-9
but the Wolf they had for $5.95 a box.
Hopefully the Wolf will work out great. Going to the range tmro so
I shall soon know.

cheers, ab
