Looking around for my very first Glock.
I decided to get a mid-sized gun, those come in three calibers and matching dimensions - which one would YOU get?

Any comment would be greatly appreciated, especially if you could compare those from personal experience...

Same reason as he. And next month, get some of those standard magazines as well.:D

I do believe that the 19 is one, if not the, most popular models that Glock makes. At least in terms of sales.

I know I'm picking up my G19 right after the AWB.

I voted G23 but mainly becase that's what I just got myself and I wanted something bigger than a 9mm.I've never shot a G19 or G32 or any other Glock for that matter so I may not be much help. Also from what I understand you can get a .357SIG barrel for the G23 and be able to shoot whichever caliber you choose between the two.

Glock 23.

Bigger caliber than 9mm. Also available in WWB value pack. :D

Glock 19 is a great gun, I love mine, and in less than a month the AWB will be over and you can get regular capacity magazines for it.

There is really very little ballistic difference between high end 9mm ammo like Winchester Ranger and either the 40 or 357.

The Glock Kaboom issue is discussed more than it is seen, but it seems to occur less frequently with 9mm than other calibers.

The only functional issue with the Glock 19 that I am aware of is that some guns don't like the 2183 followers in the 10 round mags. I suspect these followers are about to be phased out when the AWB ends and they go back to full cap mags.

Glock 26! Very easy to conceal and versatile. Install a G19 barrel and you get a longer pistol. You can also use the G19 and G17 magazines.

I'd recommend the Glock 19. I rented both the Glock 19 and Glock 23 at the range before making up my own mind on the issue and the recoil for the 23 was just too sharp for my liking. Be foreward, though - to shoot a Glock is to love one. :)

My own Glock 19 is a pre-ban hi-cap model and as Lone_Gunman remarked it's a wonderful gun. I love mine, and wouldn't part with it for anything even though I once poked fun at Glocks. Next month, after the AWB sunsets I intend to stock up on extra magazines in preparation for the next Democratic adminstration, which I hope will be at least another four years away. Never know when those liberal congress critters will enact another ridiculous law.

Greeting's All-

I voted for the G-19, as I believe in staying with standard
calibers.

Best Wishes,

.40 if you plan mainly on carrying it. 9mm if its mostly for the range -- ammo cost matters a lot with Glocks since reloads are strongly discouraged.

.40 S&W has been adopted by enough agencies that it has to be considered as an established standard now. Uless the miltary dumps 9mm for a return to 45ACP it'll probably remain the second most widely mandated "official" caliber.

Frankly, there's not enough difference in effectiveness between any of them to make a difference. All three calibres are delivering basically the same performance both in the lab and in actual LE use. The decision has to be made on elements other than effectiveness.

The 9x19 has a greater capacity.

The 9x19 can be shot accurately more quickly for the second subsequent shots.

Ammunition for the 9x19 is far more readily available (and considerably less expensive) than ammo for the 357 SIG. In terms of availability, the 9x19 and .40 S&W are a wash, but 9x19 ammunition is less expensive.

Glock is having some durability issues with its 357 SIGs.

While not addressing the seriousness and/or frequency of the problem, the 9x19 is not plagued by the kaboom issue like the .40 S&W and 357 SIG are.

I sure would not waste my money on a 9mm. Unless your just wanting to plink at the range. If it's a defence gun then .40 with a G23 is my choice.:)

Since you already have a BHP and 1911, go with the Glock 23 in .40 S&W.

I am thinking of picking up the 32 myself. So I voted for the 357

Get the 9mm. More bang and less Kaboom!

Only model of Glock I've ever owned was the 23 and I've owned two of them. I think the mid sized model is the best balanced... Opinion only though.

If I had no guns and were to buy a Glock, it would very likely be a 19. 9mm is cheaper and more convinient to shoot than 357 SIG for practice ammo and I have as much faith in the best 9mm loads as 357 SIG loads for serious use so I would certainly take the 19 over the 32.

As for popularity, I'm pretty sure the most popular models in the US are the 22, 23, 17... Not that popularity should have anything to do with your decision.

Don't have a 19 but i have a 23,26,27 and a 30.

Since you have a 9mm and a .45 acp i'ld go with the 23.

Ammo isn't that much more than a 9mm if you shop around and the kaboom thing has been stretched way out of proportion.

i am grudgingly admitting, the G19 is it!!

for the .40 cal. it would have to be the full size.

G19. Glock has always done 9mm well and the G19 is an excellent example of this. Anyone thinking 9mm is anemic smokes crack. .40 may provide more whiz bang flash OMG LB FT ENARGY 165 GRAINS HALP!!!!ONE!!11!! In the end, the difference between the handgun calibers used for defensive purposes is negligible. .40 will work, but I think that there are better platforms for .40. I don't think there are any better platforms for 9mm. Different, maybe equal, but not better ones.

I get so tired of the "9mm won't break the skin" crowd.

If this pistol is for SD I suggest getting a G32 and buying a KKM barrel in .40S&W.

Try all three Glocks and see which you can handle best.

However, I like the G19. I have G19s, G23s and G32s.

Looked like you were serious so...

The .40 glocks have a very unsupported bbl which can sometimes lead to a case rupture during firing. Usually does a number on the frame, blows the mag out and generally scares the hell out of those nearby. Haven't heard of anyone actually being hurt by one (yet.)

From what I've seen the problem is typically with slightly over-spec ammo, even factory ammo can be shipped over spec. IIRC a batch of Federal Hydrashocks was over pressure a while back, haven't heard of anything since then. If you look at a fired case you'll see a pretty large bulge near the rim, this is where the kaboom happens.

I think there was a PD in the Pacific NW not too long ago that had a .45 Glock KB on them. Not sure if was an ammo or gun issue though.

If i were you i would seriously consider the Glock 30 nothing like 10+1 for concealing a .45 cal. Also can use the 21 mags for your mag carrier. I just bought one the other day slightly used with 5 mags and night sites for $450 great deal.

I got a chance to shoot it this past weekend and it is as accurate as my full size kimber or more. Truely impressive firepower.

Ammo is cheap and plentiful, and mine along with my kimber will eat the new wolf plinking ammo for $7.99 a box not the most accurate stuff but cheap. Would not suggest carrying that ammo but if your going to shoot it right away its hard to beat.

Also get yourself a very good holster. I also just bought the Milt Spark VM2 for my Glock 30 and my Kimber Custom II and i cant believe how good they feel.
