Issue: Carrying while backpacking or hunting

I'm thinking a low ride holster of some sort may be my best option for carrying while I've got a load around my waist (waist belt on backback). A holster for a longer bbl wouldn't bother me, but I'd prefer one that will fit my 'Six snugly. Leather, cowboy, or 'tactical', as long as its got retention and covers the trigger gaurd.....
thoughts?

Also, anyone carry while wearing neoprene waders? what do you do?

I've never carried with a backpack so I don't think I can help you much there. For hunting or other similar activities I use my standard concealed carry holster, it just may not be concealed.

Any good leather holster will do for that type carry. I don't care for the really low slung ones. Personal preference. Especially the ones that tie to your leg in some fashion (tactical, gunfighter) They are not conducive to walking.

As for waders. usually when I'm wearing waders I have on a fly vest. My Colt Gov't 380 goes in one of the pockets. Small is the key here.

Even though I lieve in the desert I wear my Galco cross draw Phoenix as I want to keep my gun out of the the sun...don't need super heated ammo...or in wet weather don't need soaked either. I wear mine cross draw and when I ride the horse its cross draw for certain. Then barel length matters little. Darn sure don't want any low slung sumbiscuit holster to contend with. Besides my knuckles don't drag the ground when I walk anyways....LOL. Seriously, I much prefer cross draw and I want it out of the weather.

Yep hard to beat a safepacker.. looks like a binos case or something UN-holsterlike. Technically thats carry concealed without a permit and is a no-no.

I third the safepacker, and I have heard, unofficially, that since it is a holster, it counts as non-concealed carry. At least, a reasonable argument can be made. The safepacker attaches to your pack's waistbelt and definitely will pass for a notebook holder, or something non-threatening, which can be helpful sometimes.

only a no-no if you don't have a permit... I'll have to look into the safepacker. I was wondering what those fly fishermen do when they are in the river with grizzly. Of course a nearby guide with a 45/70 wouldn't be a bad backup either.

I've got a permit, so okay there. Seems like the safepacker would do the trick, I damn well might get one. Any suggestions on where, other then directly from the mfg?
