Not in time for dove season...

... but shortly thereafter, my time in the world of work will be over, at least for a while. Just after 5 o'clock today I got the call that my request for retirement has been approved by the Army, and at COB (close of business)on 28 September when I walk out the door, I won't be back. Dove season here opens 4 September. Oh well, that's a Saturday, and I don't have any more Saturdays scheduled to work since 21 August.

Whew. What a relief.

Been waiting for this one for a long time. I had hoped they would put me out on a medical two years ago, but that didn't happen. So I have been hanging in there as best I could and hoping for this day. For us 'useless civilians' (as my Special Forces students used to call us) they sometimes offer an 'early out' for people over 50 who have more than 20 years of service. Two years ago I had the time in but not the age, this time I qualify on both counts. I had filed the request for an early out a month ago, and now that it's approved I can file for retirement. The paperwork is ready, just have to wait till tomorrow to get to the post office so it can go out certified return receipt requested.

Dave, start drawin' that map. When I can get the loose ends tied up here I'm heading up your way for a visit.

Congrats!! I can't wait until I retire again.

Map Schmap, head North on 95, call when you're this side of DC. Three turns later and two lights you're here...
