What can any of you tell me about the 300 Savage? I've got my eye on a Remington 760 in this chambering. I did much of my first centerfire shooting with a Remington 760 in .244 Remington and I've always wanted one of my own.
I probably won't deer hunt with it this Fall, but it would be a whitetail gun down the road.

Effective round - just under .308 power so consider it as nearly as good

My dad hunted with one for decades, and now I'm lucky enough to have his old Savage 99 hanging on my wall. Dad took dozens of whitetail and muley with his not to mention a couple of pretty decent elk. With a good rifle if you handload, the difference between it and the .308 get even closer.
