Is the AICS worth the $650 or so it costs? As in, is the stock comfortable ergonomically (1.5, so LOP and comb height adjustable), does the magazine system work well, would I be better off buying a McMillan, etc.? Use is not hunting, but precision rifle (though not benchrest) shooting.

I know it says it is for the Remington 700 short action, but can it be fit to a Savage rifle? Will the magazine system still work?

You should probably run a search on The Sniper's Hide forums. There are a few threads about the AICS. Here's one for example:

The general consensus is that the AICS is a great rifle for prone shooting, but it's not very good for actual field use as it is for range use due to the size and form factor.

As far as getting it to fit a Savage, I don't think it's possible. As a Savage 10FP owner, I'm pretty familiar with all the stocks available (B&C Duramaxx, Sharpshooter Supply line, McMillan, etc) and I actually have my 10FP in a McMillan A-5.

If you have qualms about investing $500+ in an A-5, SharpShooter Supply has a stock designed based on the A-5. It runs for $275 unpainted or $325 finished. I think $275 is a great price and you can camo your rifle yourself with Brownell's or Krylon's camo paint. If I ever get my hands on a Savage long action to build a .300WM, I'll probably go with an unpainted SSS stock.
