I may have missed it but I couldn't find a thread on this...

I was listening to 850KOA this morning on the drive to work and they mentioned something abotu the 'pink motorhome here to get support to renew the 'assault weapons ban'. Anyway, the chief of police had a sound byte there and he said 'no one needs a gun that is able to shoot 120 rounds a minute'.

Now I know and you know those type weapons are not even covered by the AWB but apparently he is clueless. I will be calling his office when I am on my 'lunch' break.

Just thought ya'll should know what our fine police chief here in Denver thinks.

Where do they find these people?

I would be very surprised if more than one tenth of big-city police chiefs were ever beat cops.

Where do they find these people?

The local PD just promoted its female assistant chief to the Chiefs spot. Of her 20 or so years in uniform, all but about three years have been behind a desk. After 21 days on the job, she is already going after officers and bringing in a hatchet man from out of the county for 90 days to set up an IA division to target individual officers.

This is the same woman who a couple of years ago brought family members on a tour of a fatal motor vehicle accident while the officers were still at the scene with body parts strewn around.

I also don't understand why they can't promote qualified people, and where they find the people that do get promoted. The current chief replaced an Asian Chief they brought in from NYC, which is 4 hours away. The powers that be within and outside the PD was very proud of being the only Northeastern agency with an Asian Chief, so its obvious that they were looking to check a box. Trouble was, that guy failed the Chiefs test twice, and spent every weekend down in NYC instead of in this county where he was needed to lead.I figure the current Chief is just another EE/EO checked box; she failed the current test for the Chiefs list, but they extended the old list by 90 days, just long enough to reach down for her when they needed to fill the position.

Thanks for the information, although it's no surprise.

If I were the mayor, I'd fire the chief for playing politics in uniform.

Thats the next place I am going, once I get someone in the Chiefs office to answer the phone.
