Has anyone handled or shot one of these? How accurate are they? They look like they might be fun to shoot. .45-70, 32" barrel, open sights...

Thanks for any help,
Steve

I haven`t shot the Buffalo Classic but I did put quite a few rounds through the standard .45-70 H&R. It was a blast. :) We were shooting offhand at targets at 250yds. so I can`t say exactyl how accurate it was but I could easliy put 5rds. into an area about smaller than a trachcan lid even with crude open sights. Not too bad for offhand with no sling. Recoil wasn`t bad either even with Buffalo Bore ammo. I just saw a Buffalo Classic at a show. I`d love to have one. Marcus

Had one. Bought it before I decided I really wanted a Sharps replica. Very will made rifle. Shot excellent. Local Doc snapped it up the day I traded and just loves the thing. Good long range 45/70 but I wanted a tang sight for playing with the boys on steel way out there.

I'm pretty much with Bruce and Marcus.

I was eyeing a Sharps replica but bought the carbine H&R just to make sure I wanted a 45-70. I DID!:D I still bought the Sharps later but I kept the little H&R. Its my truck gun now. I still like it.

If I had discovered the Buffalo Classic before I had bought the carbine I would have definitely bought it instead.

My H&R is very accurate depending on the loads you buy. Cowboy loads aren't that great but good quality hunting loads will perform wonderfully. Trigger is not great. ( I never tried to fix it) Sights on mine aren't good either, but I think the BC is better equipped.

Go get it and happy shooting!

The Buffalo Classic has a williams peep on the rear and changeable inserts on the front. I have one of the NEF 45/70's also. They are just too much fun for no more than they cost. I put a 2.5 to 10 Mill dot on my NEF. Looks a little funny but shoots real well and thats all that matters.

Will this break-down action handle hot handloads i.e. Ruger No.1 pressure levels? Just wondering.:)

I don't think there's much that will handle the pressures that a Ruger No 1 will.

However, what I'm seeing on the web is that your shoulder will tell you when it's time to stop pushing the power level higher.

They're pretty strong.

How much does one usually go for new?

@#$% !!!!

H&R seems to have started making them with plain ol' round Handi-Rifle barrels.

They used to be octagons.

They're really nice in octagon, and for the price. The retro charm and accuracy of a Sharps replica without requiring a second mortgage. Great sights included with the gun, ready to hunt with out of the box.

Now I wish I'd have bought one when I could get an octagon easily.

ive put a mid range tang sight on mine and only shoot black powder out of mine. Good enough to start shooting bpcr on the cheap. Got the tang sight from midway for 150 bucks with my dealer discount and cost me 65 bucks to have it mounted. The gunsmith had to do a little bit of inleting on the stock but it looks great

My Buffalo classic will get between 1.5 and 2" at 100 yards.

I load a speer 350gr at 2300 fps or a Remington 405gr at 1600fps.

BC's kick hard with heavier loads. I stuffed the buttstock with fishing weights to tame the recoil.

If you scope a BC, pay close attention to eye relief.

The BC is one of my favorites.

Mine will shoot cloverleaf groups @ 100 yards with hand loads.
Here is a pic from last winter of a head shot on a pot bellied pig at about 100 yards. Don't ask what it was doing out there in the woods but I figured we already had enough pig problems we didn't need those too!

Hey TimC what was that pot bellied pig doing out in the woods?:)

Kidding, nice shot! I go feral pig hunting all the time since you don;t need a license for them...love it! There is a Handi here in NM at my gun dealer in 45-120 with oct barrel, nice gun I think for a little over 250.00

I am using 300 grain JHP's with 57.0 grains of Varget. The recoil is stout but not too bad.
