Anyone ever use a Star Modelo Super B?

I have seen these in 9mm and they look like a decent little sidearm at a really great price. I think I remember reading in a gunrag about a soldier in Africa somewhere defending his armored car with one of these. That is off topic, I know. Back to my point, I think one of these might be a decent little pistol to leave in a vehicle as an inexpensive truck pistol. If you have ever shot or handled one, let me know what you thought.

I have a Star BM, the compact version. It's about like a Commander or Officer's model. It's surprisingly nice. Accuracy is all I could ask for, and it has a sweet 3 or 4 pd. trigger. recoil is surprisingly stiff with the gun being almost TOO thin, and the tang has a bit of an edge that digs into the web of my hand.

It's a fun range pistol and is surprisingly reliable, especially with hollow points. However, it's not totally reliable with the junky ball I put through it (Win. White box and some reloads from Cabella's). I don't carry it mainly because the thumb safety snicks off too easily.

Don't know how much of this translates to the Model B, but Stephen Camp has done a review on the Firing Line. Seems like his experience was similar, not quite ready for prime time but a good fun range gun.

bernie,
I think I read the same story! I think I remember it taking place in Angola IIRC. It was a great story but I forgot about the Star in it.

I have seen these Star pistols in person and they look very well made for the money. Some I have seen were really beat up, like someone used it for a hocky puck or something. I want to get one or two of these myself. I have a Star Firestar and it is a top notch pistol. It will shoot as well or better than any full sized service gun I have come across. I think Stars are winners but they break firing pins easily. Get a spare pin.

I've got two of the Star Model B Supers in 9mm Luger. Got them from Aim Surplus in excellent refinished condition in the original box with manual and extra mag.

Excellent pistols, good triggers, really smooth slide action. This is the centerfire pistol I've started my 13-year old out on now that he's handled .22s for a while.

Only problem is sometimes the empty likes to eject up and back onto the top of your head, so wear a hat!

I believe there is a review of these guns at www.cruffler.com

The Star guns are OK but like about all the Spanish guns, they tend to be soft, with parts of soft steel case hardened, rather than of hardened steel. (Not necessarily bad, just a caution if working on them.)

They will hold up pretty well, and are reasonably reliable and accurate as well as being a handy size. I would not spend any post-purchase money on one or attempt to make it a super gun. Shoot it and enjoy it, carry it if you want and can legally. But, like all carry guns, make sure it fires at least 200 consecutive rounds with the carry ammo and carry magazine(s).

I had a Model Super B in 9mm Largo about ten years ago. It was a well made pistol that functioned perfectly with old surplus ammo and even aluminum cased Blazer stuff. I traded it for a Tokarev because i wanted a 9mm Luger, the Tok didn't feel right in my hand like the Star did so it got traded for a 20 guage Mossberg pump which I still have, or should I say my significant other still has! Overall, I liked the Star and would like to have another one someday. And TooTech, I know what you're saying about the empties coming back at you, try having a hot case lodge between your glasses and nose. Quite a surprise and you get real inventive at making new words! Take care, Mikey
