Upscale Casual With Your CCW

Most of the time I carry my J-Frame in a pocket holster in my Royal Robbins pants.

Sometimes the wife wants to go to a "fancy" restaurant or other upscale location, so I can't wear my Royal Robbins.

I don't like wearing suits, so I usually dress in what I would call "upscale casual" -- i.e. dress slacks with an oversized shirt to conceal my CCW.

While wearing dress pants, I don't like to pocket carry my CCW, so I usually carry the J-frame or my Beretta Centurion in a OWB holster.

I find that a untucked and oversized BEN SHERMAN shirt or a TOMMY BAHAMA shirt works well for me under these conditions as their "funky" patterns help to break up the shape of my CCW.

Any other ideas on how to CCW in "upscale casual" wear?

IMO, anything with an untucked shirt hardly qualifies as "upscale casual".

A sportcoat, suitcoat, or light leather squaretail jacket should do the trick nicely.

A Kramer "Confidant" undershirt/holster works well when you need to wear your pistol and cant wear a cover garment. You can conceal a full sized 1911(smaller guns are more comfortable though) and a reload under a tucked in dress shirt and your pants will stay up too. Its a comfortable solution to an annoying problem. If you decide to get one, order one size smaller that you normally wear as it keeps the gun from moving around.

I wear the same thing as to the office but I unbutton the dress shirt and fold the sleeves up. When I want to be Mr. Fancypants, I have a cotton/silk black Boss shirt that I do the same thing for. If you go with lighter fabrics like silk you want as flat as a gun as possible and the P7M8 is a little more fancypants than the Beretta. The Beretta is more like picking up duck eggs in Chinatown CCW.

Usually wear my black Danners unless the dress shoes are absolutely necessary. Had the shoe guy put rubber soles on my Hugo Boss dress shoes.

The watch and belt are the same: Milt Sparks sharkskin in 1.5" (as thick as I want for fancy and as thin as I want for tactical) and a black leatherband watch.

"Dressy-ish" casual to me is pleated Docker type(I like St John's Bay pants actually) pants usually black, nice shoes and one of my better solid color golf shirts or a button down dress shirt without a tie, either way tucked in. I've noticed that these type of pants do have bigger front pockets than most dress slacks, plus are just more comfortable. In these cases, my J-frame in a Desantis pocket holster works very nicely. I probably could even get away with my Colt CCO, IWB in my "tuckable" Comp-Tac holster, but I don't like the belt clips showing.

Sometimes called Mexican wedding shirts. They are worn in tropical parts of the world and are used for formal wear, such as at a wedding. Makes for an excellent concealed carry garment. Good shooting;)

Works well as IWB, OWB, or Under the Shirt. I wear it with suits, jeans, khakis, or shorts.

I guess we have different definitations of upscale casual. My everyday going out/school clothes are kakhi shorts/pants with a untucked button down shirt. When I am dressed like this, I usually have a service pistol with reloads, and I can spend time at a family gathering with no one being wiser. Upscale casual I keep the kakhi's pants, but either have a tucked in polo, or tucked in nicer button down shirt. I can add a tie to the button down shirt, depending on the circumstances. With this I lose the service pistol, and go to a j-frame in a front weakside pocket, and my p-32 in a backpocket holster or a ankle holster. Depends how much sitting down versus walking around I am going to do. With a suit, I go to the p-32 in the pocket, the j-frame on the ankle and resolve myself to not being comfortable for a few hours.

I like vests. Concealed Carry Clothiers (http://www.concealedcarry.com/) offers some good-looking vests which cover a full-size OWB, and have pockets which accomodate smaller guns, reloads, etc. They're somewhat expensive, but it's a good option, IMO.
