i have recently started to shoot left handed since my dominant eye is the left eye. i have also started shooting with both eyes open to see how well i can and to my surprise i am just as good left handed with both eyes as i was with one eye right handed.

i have only done this with my .22 so far, and i can shoot a 3.5" group at 50' at my best. at my worst there are some flyers because of my normal shaking and flinching problems.

I haven't -- but I am training my right eye to be dominant (I'm right-handed and left-eye dominant) since my left eye often has a large "floater" that hangs right where my sight picture should be. It seems to be working. I now easily resolve the sight picture during dry-fire practice with my right eye with both eyes open. Of course, this process could be aided a lot by the fact that by brain may be naturally compensating for the problems in my left eye regardless of whatever training I do.

I've heard of methods to make yourself right-eye dominant. That seems more practical than changing over to shoot lefthanded...which can make for longer reloads etc... I believe one of them involves putting some scotch tape over the left side of some glasses or something. Do a search here for dominant eye or something and you'll probably find it.

For almost every purpose, I find it easier to train my brain/eyes to work RH/RE. The exception is skeet, where I don't seem to be able to make everything work right... :uhoh:

I started shooting left handed since I was 8. My right eye is concidered a "lazy" eye in medical terms. Non correctable with prescription and lasic.

On that note, I learned to shoot guns and bows left handed. Wasnt too hard to do.

Im right handed and shoot with both eyes open as well.

Worst thing about it is finding holsters.

I shoot long guns at about the same proficiency from either shoulder, but prefer the left due to eye dominance.

Handguns are an easy fix, shoot right handed, just hold it in front of your dominant eye.

I shot smallbore lefthanded for a while because I have better sight through my left eye. But then I took up pistol shooting, and my sight hasn't made any difference since.

I'm right handed and left eye dominant too. I've just about got my eyes to switch after working on it for the last couple of years. I haven't tried the glasses thing, but practice while dryfiring, at the range, and sometimes doing various tasks throughout the day.
It's a pain in the butt, but something that I feel is worth changing.

I used to see this a lot shooting olympic style archery. Although it is rare to be right handed and left eye dominant it does happen. However I'd go with your dominant hand over the eye if your life is at stake.

I was born a lefty, but initially learned to shoot right handed. Simply because that's what I always saw and didn't know any better.

As I got more and more into shooting I began to notice that I was left eye dominant. I began to practice, drawing & dry firing in front of a mirror and actually shooting with my left hand and found that it felt more natural and that I liked it better too. An unexpected benefit to switching after I had been shooting a while was that I can now shoot a handgun right or left fairly equally. I now carry and shoot on the left, but still practice with my right.

However, I still shoot long guns right only. Tried left, but it just didn't feel right.

I've tried shooting left with a pistol, I'm not very good but I think I could handle a SD situation if I had too and my strong side was out of the question. I least I hope I could if I had too if I was backed into a corner and there wasnt an escape route...

I shoot longarms left. Tried shooting right, felt weird, sight picture sucked, when I had one. My vision is better in my left eye anyway.

Went to my CCW class thinking I would never be able to hit the side of a barn (from inside) with a handgun.
Found out that I'm left-eye dominant.

So, I started shooting with both eyes open. :eek: :uhoh:

Surprisingly, some people actually tell me I'm an excellent shot now.
(No they've not seen many real shooters, but I'm not going to argue with them. :rolleyes: )

My left hand would require a lot of work to become my shooting hand, since I've ignored it most of my life.
But, since you never know if your "gun hand" will be injured, I've started working with it.

I'm cross-eye dominant and unsure as to whether to begin shooting anew (left handedly) or shoot with both eyes open or just suck it up and shoot right handedly.

I'm left eye dominant, but have always shot right handed. There's no way I'll switch. I do try to practice some left handed shooting at times. Never know when it will come in handy.

Funny, I was thinking about this very subject this week. I had an eye appointment and found out how much weeker my right eye is than my left. But, I am right eye dominant and right handed as well. Getting older sucks! :D But, spec's help, easier than switching to lefty ;)
