Yesterday I stopped by the Dominion Shooting Range to say howdy to the bald guy there. They had a gun I've never seen before. A FELK in 9mm. This is a semi auto that looks a lot like a Walther P99 from a distance. Now, It's well known that I like small guns and short rifles... so this Felk is something I had to see. Looking cool in the case and looking cool in the hand are too different things.
In the hand I noticed that the finish is absolutely horrible. Looks like it was caste and then just painted with no effort to actually finish it. The Trigger was very much like that of a CZ-100. (meaning horrible) The magazine is a proprietary looking thing... of clear plastic.
Striker fired with all the standards bells and wistles.
At 350 this gun isn't badly priced... but as cheap as it seems, Looks like 199 would be more like it.
I liked the profile... but I think the quality of a Thunder Five is much better.

For 350 your money is better invested on something else.

Felks were listed in one of the gun books several years ago. I checked on them and could never find evidence that there was anything more than a flyer (which I still have). I think Felk makes trailers in Australia. What I remember was a subcompact .45 with polymer frame with ten round mag and Glock type trigger. At one time an Israeli manufacturer might have been involved. I suspect that Felk was scared off by the various lawsuits brought against gun makers. If anyone has a Felk .45, it would be great to hear about it.

I guess one interesting thing that it had for it was that the frame could be used for multi-caliber swaps. The 9 can becoem a .45 by swapping tops and mags.
However I think this is over rated. You can do the same with a desert eagle and I don't hear any big praises of that POS.

Drakejake, I don't know about any Israeli manufacturers but the early prototypes were made by Llama in Spain. The importer (Felk USA) was sued by the city of New York along with a few dozen other importers and manufacturers but that had nothing to do with their slow arrival to the market. Felk USA was being sued for reckless marketing practices or some similar crap, the claim was they were marketing their guns to criminals and were somehow responsible for street crime in New York. Problem was Felk had never sold a gun in the United States, actually Felk USA had never sold a gun at all. Just one more example of politically motivated lawsuits trying to force policy changes. Guy opens a company and gets an import license to bring guns in for sale and has to divert time, effort and money to defending himself from a lawsuit and he never sold a single gun. The real delay was in de-bugging the initial design.

The pistol is smaller than the G-19 but not by much. I don't know if I would compare the trigger to the CZ 100, the CZ has a double action pull but the Felk is more Glock like (but not that good). The slide is cast and casting marks are visible, by not finish machining the slide they can keep production costs down. For the price range it isn't a bad gun (from what I have seen so far), not much else in that range. Price may come down a little if the sales volume increases as they reach the market. We have sold about a half dozen so far with none returning for any problems. The clear plastic mags are only in the 9mm and .40 S&W, the .45 cal mags are steel.

George,

The interesting thing is that Dominion Shooting Range is where I went yesterday, and that FELK was still sitting in the case. Same price too.

Chris.
