Yay. Strange to think that five months ago our club consisted of exactly two members (me and fellow THR member Daedalus).

Now we have over 100 members, nearly $2000 in student government funding, and we're still going. :)

I'd just to like to thank THR members BowStreetRunner, Daedalus, and matt7184, as well as everyone here who supported us. Next step? NRA grant. :)

That is awesome, congrats.

Must say I'm jealous. Give us details on what you guys actually do in the club. Rifle shooting? Rimfire shooting? pistol shooting? range days?

Keep it up, sounds like you guys are starting off great. :)

I hope whatever college I end up going to has a gun club, it would be nice.

If you take up a member collection, you should be able to get a few Garands and Ar15s from the CMP (if the AR15s are still available for club sale), along with ammo.

Officially, we are a student organization that promotes gun safety and safe firearms handling an experience to all students at UF. We give students who have never fired a gun before an avenue to do so and also give experienced shooters a community they can belong to - college students seem to be left out of most shooting cliques by older shooters and going to the range is more fun with people you know.

This started out as myself and Mulliga meeting here on THR and finding out that both of us wanted to start a shooting club. We got a couple friends together and some new people from flyering campus and just went to the range together for about 4 months. Our club fluctuated in size as people came to shoots with us until this fall. We aggressively recruited and grew from our summer membership of ~50 members and 25 active members to about ~100 members and 60 active members currently.

A semi-local range, in the Osceola National Forest is where we shoot rifles and pistol sand a local range called Gator Skeet and Trap is a first class sporting clays range. We try to alternate each weekend organizing trips to Osceola and the Skeet range so people who like pistols, people who like rifles, and people who like shotguns all have range days suited to their interests. We do not have formal competitions - doing so would result in our club straying from its goal and heading into competitive sports - so we pretty much go out to the range and jsut have a good time.

Part of our budget allocated money so that UF students could go to Gator Skeet and Trap and shoot shotguns there free of charge on one particular day - gun rentals, ammunition, and clays all included. That was actually the bulk of our expenses, about 1700$ going to this one event we dubbed the "Fall Shooting Festival" where people curious about sporting clays could come and shoot without having to plunk down 20$ in ammunition and clays and other expenses.

I wonder if UVA still has the 50' indoor pistol range under the NROTC building? One step at a time, congrats for successfully pushing back against the PC grabboids!

Unfortunately, the UVA Range in Maury Hall was closed down about 5 years ago. Here's an article on it from the Cav Daily: http://www.cavalierdaily.com/CVArticle.asp?ID=2042&pid=501

Congrats on your budget! The Shooting club that I started got shafted last year. We had to turn in all of our paperwork to our "faculty advisor", the first of whom took our paperwork, and dissapeared. So, a few months later, and a week after the deadline to apply for funding, we finally got out new paperwork turned in with the help of a new advisor. At the end of last semester our club had about 30 members that were active in some way. Now, I am planning on really getting it going this fall and have big plans for the University of Montana Shooting Sports Team. It's so rewarding having a whole group of like minded people in a town as liberal as Missoula!
