Why have you not bought "The one you want"?

I was just thinking about the few pieces I really would like to get to say to myself, my collection is just about complete. Or, that one is really nice. But I haven't purchased some for varying reasons, like the CMP Garand (haven't done the paperwork yet, don't know if I want a service grade or sg and rack grade) or the Colt Commander (waiting for the gun show deal) etc. With my C&R, I have been able to order a lot of stuff that I have been eye balling, so that has been good, no more good excuses there! $80 for a nice rifle is hard to say no to.

Why haven't I bought "the one?"

"The one" keeps changing, although right now it's a KTR-03S from Krebs. Biggest reason: $$$$, or lack thereof.

Lack of safe space has now become an issue as well. A new safe has now passed all the guns at the top of the list.

Money.

Not the lack of it per se, but priortization. Most of the guns I want now are $500+. It's hard to justify what's essentially a gift to me when I have a family to provide for.

CMP Garand

BUT, It's hard to justify what's essentially a gift to me when when my parents and other family members are paying for my college.

But maybe over Christmas break this year if I'm good (fingers crossed).

I just did yesterday, Remington 700P in .308. :)
But I have to wait a few months before I can get the money together to buy the Leupold I want to go with it. :(

I bought it as a graduation present to myself (Bachelors in Chem Eng) and because I knew if I didnt use part of my sign-on bonus for it, I'd never buy it.

Now I need to find a new dream gun to yearn for.

Because Solothurn 20mm cannons have priced themselves out of my range...

Who,

Get the US Service Grade CMP Garand. You'll be much happier with it then with the Rack Grade guns, trust me.

The ONLY reason to get a Rack Grade gun is if you plan on rebarreling it anyway. They make good "kits" for a Match Rifle project or conversion to .308, but for a shooter, stick with US Service Grade.

'cause I get the one I thought was the "one" and when the honeymoon's over I find there's a new "one", and the saga continues..........................

Yup. Several times I've bought "The one I want". Then, since it's "The one I have", I want something else.

Isn't life great?!:D

Nerve. Do I really want to invest $3000-$4000 in a custom STI? My "cheap" $1100 Kimber Gold Match shoots bullets too. It also puts them in the alpha zone more often than other, classier guns at the range.

Ahhh, but the snob appeal... the snob appeal.

... and probably spoke for a lot of us ... think we all wrestle with the same situation. And when you've got one daughter in college, and another soon to go, too -- it's just so tough to justify spending a lot on one's self (even though Winchester came out with the "Classic" versions of Pre-64 Model 70s and there are so many good 1911s out there now) ...

The one I want costs $12,000 to $15,000. I haven't yet been able to scrape up that kind of cash for a gun. (My car only cost $900)

My 1991 Stainless?

Well, I've been unemployed (and broke) for almost 2 months... on top of that, I'm not 21 yet, so I can't get it until then.

Mainly because a full auto Thompson submachine gun goes for around (I'm guessing here) $15,000.

Khar/Auto Ord has them listed on their webpage, but as "Not Currently Produced"

Maybe someday.

I dunno, momentary monetary shortage due to lack of self control I suppose. I was saving up for 'the one' and then a few weeks ago I came across a Colt WWI repro and bought it because I really liked it.

I call BS on myself...I'm just too cheap to let go of the really major bucks.

Because I live in an older suburb of Detroit where the houses are only 20 ft apart. Getting to the range is a pain. On top of that it only goes out to 100 yards.
I'll but "the one" the day after I move into a house that has enough property that I can shoot it in my back yard every day if I choose. (Out to at least 300 yards)

ZeroX, dude, you could go and put "The One" in layaway at your favorite gunshop and pick it up on "The Day" ! 90 days same as cash right ? IIRC, you dont fill out the 4473 until time of delivery (When you take posession) No laws broken there. My first "One" only set me back a hair over three bills.

The thing is, it's not like I don't have money at the moment or I need it all for gas but it's that I have exactly 0 cash flow and the situation is unlikely to change now that the college students are back in town.

Too many hobbies. I've got more money into my bicycle gear then gun-stuff. I pay weekly fees to race in a local series.
On occasion, I spend my allowance on fly-fishing stuff. This summer I bought new waders.
Oh, yea, and I've got a kid.

I really really want, but haven't purchased, a SA 1911A1 GI... why?

I'm only 20. 7.5 more months... :banghead: :fire:
By then they'll probably be illegal. Or discontinued. Both, I guess.

I also want a Springfield M1A (specifically, their most basic model), but it takes me six months to save that much money, what with the whole rent/insurance/food/electricity thing... :uhoh:

I know for a sad fact that I'll probably never have either.

Money. Not that it isn't there, but the kids need clothes, and the air conditioning broke on my wife's car, and the student loan bills keep coming in, and hey, we need a new CDRW drive for the computer, and the house needs painting, and the garage door needs replacing...

There's only one more on my list. I think it's an SP101, then I'm done. I'll concentrate on more ammo, spare parts, reloading stuff, etc.

1) Cant afford it. Thompson 1928's aint cheap...

2) I've got most of it. I'm picking up the rest on the 14th...

Mom dug herself in a financial hole, again, and I'm having to dig her out, again. Bad timing for me (since some ***hole shot a widow out of my car), and I found another gun I want.

I want both a M1-A and a Sharps replica .

These are $1,000 to $1,500 guns.

Always have better need for the cash.

Otherwise, I am well supplied, though you can always get mo mags, ammo, etc.

I'd like to get ACOG (?) and Aimpoint for Bushy, these are not inexpensive.
