Complete The Scenerio
The US bombs Iraq. It destroys the military infrastructure, tanks, weapons, etc.
It is now time to enter with "boots on the ground" into Baghdad.
What happens?

1 or any combination of 3
1...Armed citizens turn weapons on "Republican Guard" soldiers...
2..."Republican Guard" makes the French surrender monkeys look like real amatuers....
3...house-to-house & storefront-to-storefront shootouts.

We end up pouring billions of dollars into Iraq on top of the cost of the invasion itself.

fog, there'll be no "Republican Guard" left to surrender. Fight will be over before Baghdad, however once they get there danger is Saddam does something really goofy.

Do we have the technology to make, say, a fuel-air type bomb but instead strews pig offal over every nook and cranny of Baghdad?
That would sure smoke 'em out.

Let's hope and pray it's option 2. But remember the Ba'ath (sp?) party stands to not only lose power, but they will surely face reprisal if they lose.
Having your family murdered in payback for years of oppressive and evil acts is a good reason to stand and fight.
As with any war, there is a lot that can go wrong. There is no doubt that we will win. But I'm getting a little tired of the jingoistic attitude on the part of some in the media and many public figures. Yesterday I heard Rush Limbaugh spouting off about how the only thing that hadn't been detrmined was if the war would last 2 days or 4.
War isn't a nice video game. It's not clean and it won't be fought totally with JADMs and Predator UAVs. If someone wants to fight, they can make you pay a terrible price from the wreackage of their infrastructure. I don't think that they will, but they might. And I think it's foolish and irresponsible to make light of it. As a nation, we've forgotten what war can be. And I don't think that's healthy.
Ok venting over....

Jeff, uncontrollable variables in a real fight? How is that possible? We were just talking at the gun shoppe the other day about how we would fast rope into Berlin Strausse in Baghdad and take down tangos with fast karate chops with little thought of the danger to ourselves or others or the fact that we are completely untrained to do this.

House to house is not a bad thing when your "house to house" weapon is an Abrams. Baghdad is a nice modern upgraded city with wide streets, not Mogadishu deux.

Howzabout #4 - Park on the edge of town, get on the loudspeaker, and tell 'em to send the :cuss: out... Then wait. I figure that after about a week of seige...
