I would deff go with the Kimber. I am an avid glock fan as i won two of them but i'm not a big fan of their compacs cause my hands dont fit right on them. And the last time i held a kimber compac it just felt like it belonged there.

I really would go for the Glock 30 over the G36 or Kimber compact. I like 1911s, but when you start chopping that barrel down, you eventually affect reliability. You might get a good one. You might get one that chokes every other mag and needs a little tuning to put right.

Compact 1911. Cocked and locked. Thin profile. And it looks better. :D

I voted G36 but would prefer the G30. As to the Kimber, I'd pass on their chopped 1911s in favor of an LDA-triggered Para made for the task. Yep, they work and are super smooth.

As a huge 1911 and Glock fan, I'm going to have to vote the G36 out of a compact 1911 vs. the G36. I like the full size 1911 or bust. It is so easy for me to conceal that I can't imagine wanting to get something that is different than it was originally designed. I'll stick with the full size ideally, but I'm going to have to rate the G36 higher in this battle.

Well, between a sub 4" 1911 and a G36, I'd probably go for the Glock... I know opinions and experiences are varied, but I've seen too many 3" to 3.5" 1911s not work consistantly while G36s pretty much go bang every time.
Now, if we include 4" and 4.25" 1911s, I'd lean towards one of them over the Glock.

I'd say go with the Glock 36.
I've also seen lots of reliability problems with the small 1911's. I bought a V10 that'd FTF, FTE alot. Also search about low velocitiy and keyholing issues with the higher grain loads.
The Glock .45's have an octagonal cut barrel, which means no lead.

The best part about Glocks is the HUGE aftermarket. If the 36 isn't perfect for you out of the box there is an ocean of connectors, springs, trigger bars, sights, mag floor plates, ext slide stop levers, etc.
I'd also suggest holding the 1911 and the Glock at the same time. Now, which one would you want to carry all day?

My favorite style of pistol is the 1911, but I would not bet my life on a 3" bbl version. I know many people have good results, but my personal experience is that they are not nearly reliable enough. I have them, but will not carry them.
If it has to be limited to these two choices, go with the Glock (gad, I can't believe I wrote that!!!!!)

If it works for you I would go with the Glock. It would be thinner and ligher making an easier carry package. Like any carry gun you'll want to test it for functionality with your loads.

Neither
LW Commander or Commander slide and Officers frame. 1911's that have a barrel length under 4" can be fussy.

Glock.
Yeah, they ain't pretty, but they will go bang everytime you pull the trigger.
I've got a Glock 30, and actually really like it.
I'm thinking about trying to trade a Colt Combat Elite for a Glock 36 or maybe a 19.
Biggest thing you need to decide is if you are a 1911 guy or not.

Glock. :D
It's lightweight and simple. 1911's are great, but I don't think they make good choice for CCW. They are heavy, and the rear sight, grip or magazine plate may wear holes in any shirt or jacket you wear over it. I knew a feller who had a Colt Defender, and it did that. The Glock's rear right, grip and magazine is friendly to clothing.

Glock,

I'd go with a compact size Kimber (4"bbl, Occifer's frame). Owned Glocks and 1911's and the 1911's just work better for me.

the 36 is a bad example, how about the 30,27,29 or whatever all the compacts are.

The 36 is one of the compacts. It is a lower capacity version of the 30. Frankly I can't think of a reason for it other than, possibly, some people not being able to grip the Glock 30. It does have a slimmer grip, but as far as I can tell, it's got the same fat slide as the 30, so it really doesn't have a concealability avantage over the 30.

36 or 30, depending on your hands. Both will serve you well. I have both and like both. If you are comfortable carrying the heavier, fatter 30, go for that.

Neither, in my opinion. Sig 239 in 40 S&W/357 Sig is my choice. :D

If it were a choice between a mil-spec 1911 and the Glock I'd go for the 1911 but I have both personal experience with and have read much corroborating evidence that the Kimber just might not go bang every time you pull the trigger.
The Glock will go bang every time you pull the trigger and for a carry gun that is a prime consideration.

I think the thread started has been biten by the .45 bug. Smaller calibers have some pluses, but that's not what he asked for.

I bought a Glock G30, I should have bought the G36. To me the G30 was like trying to CCW a brick or a 7" piece of 2X4. $ for $ you can't beat a Glock.
I must admit that 1911's are nice but just about everyone I know who owns one is not satisfied with it out of the box. They spend big bucks customizing them to get them "tuned just right". A Glock, on the other hand, you pick it up and shoot the hell out of it, it doesn't need any customizing or tuning.
You can buy two Glocks for what one really good 1911 will cost. Go with the G36, nice gun.:D

Neither. I consider the Glock 36 to be the worst of all the Glocks. SAO guns are not a great choice for a carry gun either.
I would go for a Kahr in 9mm or .40 if you feel you need more power. I find the 9mm to be plenty powerful enough but I have never had to shoot someone with a gun before.
If you want a compact .45acp for some reason, the SIG 245 is really not much bigger than a G-36 but it is much nicer to shoot and is more accurate.

BTW, Glocks do jam. My brother has a G-36 and it has had at least half a dozen jams in about 2000rds. I think that is a little high. The bad thing is, the jams occure at random times and in different ways. He has had FTE jams, FTF jams and other problems. It happens with good ammo as well as cheap ammo, it happens every couple of hundred rounds for apparently no reason.
I am not impressed with the Glock 36. Every other Glock I have seen has been reliable and accurate but the G-36 is niether. It pinches your little finger between the mag and the grip frame, it gives your trigger finger a blister because of the stupid trigger, it stings your hand in recoil because of the uneven balance. It feels like a 2x4 in the hand and it has cheap plastic sights. So much could be improved on this gun that it is not worth the money.
There are plenty of better guns out there in smaller cals that would serve much better for what you want. Kahr K-9, K-40, P-9, P-40, SIG 239, and others would make a better choice.

Agreed regarding the P245. I just got one with the Ilaflon coating and three mags with night sights. It is very accurate, feels good in hand, and reliable.

Neither. Both are lacking IMHO. I don't either one very much. The Glock 36 is snappy in recoil and hard to shoot well. Cutting a 1911 down to the mini size takes away all the benfits of having a 1911 (which I like). The full or comander sized 1911s are best, when you get smaller than that, you might as well get another gun because the handling is all messed up.
My choice would be a Kahr K-9, P-9, PM9, P-40, or K-40. All the power you need and in a better designed package.

I define "compact" as anything smaller than a Commander. for example, my 4" Kimber. Carried daily, fired often, cleaned almost never.

It it's a 1911 (especially a chopped, less than 5" one) it NEEDS cleaning and proper lube to run. If no, it WILL fail. You didn't hear it here first.
