Thanks to the kind graces of Preacherman, I got to try a B-square scout scope mount for the Yugo M-48. Just installed it tonight, so I've no word on how well it holds zero (or how much would truly be the mount, as it's holding a cheapie NC Star scope at the moment).

I figured I'd give the forward-mounted 'scope idea a try on a budget to see how I felt about it before possibly sinking more money into it. Unfortunately, this won't let me test the quick-aquisition part of the concept because the glass is so absurdly high from the stock.. just eyeballing it, there's 1.5-2" of space between the centerline of the scope and the bore -- I have to get a "cheek weld" off my jaw to line up with the glass. I could get used to it I suppose, but it feels pretty awkward so far.

On the plus side, installation was a snap, and it looks a lot more solid than I suspected at first.

It's a neat way to try out concept, but I'd honestly not recommend buying it unless you *really* need to glass your milsurp without doing any perment alterations (you can always remove the handguard to make room for the mount rather than inletting it). That said, for what a B-square retails, I'd be inclined to just get a ching-ring style Ashley Express mount or just plain JB weld some TC or whichever mounts to the barrel.

Eventually I'll do one of those two to this Mauser if and when I rebarrel it, or just bite the bullet and have the reciever drilled and tapped for a Leupold 3-9 I have lying around.
