Here's just one post from there: I mean, think about all the assualt weapons that are going to flood our street once the AWB is killed by the NRA and republicans. Crazy gun killers are going to br buying uzi's and bazzookas out of every damn trunk on the street. Do we have to stoop to their level and do the same thing?

The thought of having to touch a gun makes my skin crawl to start with.

How can people who suscribe to a political ideology that (allegedly) embraces pacificism and peace as a virtue be so hateful and violent?

This topanga chick has no brains AT ALL. Here are a few choice quotes:

1. “wasn't lincoln a republican?”

[Yeah, that's right, I guess getting rid of slavery was wrong because a Republican was President].

2. I mean, think about all the assualt weapons that are going to flood our street once the AWB is killed by the NRA and republicans. Crazy gun killers are going to br buying uzi's and bazzookas out of every damn trunk on the street. Do we have to stoop to their level and do the same thing?

The thought of having to touch a gun makes my skin crawl to start with."

[Good, she doesn't exactly sound rational, so I'm glad that she doesn't want one]

Someone with brains and knowledge responded:
“Assualt weapon ban has nothing to do with uzis or bazookas.

both of them are controlled by the NFA, so they won't be flooding the streets next week. AWB is cosmetic features only, that's why its a stupid law that deserves to die.

To which, our illustrious Topanga responded:

3. “Bull????.

You see everywhere that uzis and other assualt weapons are for sale everywhere, CNN just had a special on it. I know for a fact I don't want to live in a country where my 6 year old can buy a gun from the ice cream man.

I read an article in the local newspaper about a guy that robbed a liquor store with a fully automatic revolver, do you want to live in a country like that?"

:scrutiny:

And, finally:

4. "I saw a picture of John Kerry hunting, I am a vegeterian and it bothered me a little tha the likes to kill things, but we need a president who will be real.

[Real WHAT? Real stupid? Real appeasing? Real Socialist? Real rich by marriage?]

Didn't make me want to get an assualt weapon, but I was happy that John Kerry was a real man."

If you head over to www.hannity.com, you will find very some very long, very well researched discussions and arguments between liberals and conservatives. Over on the DU, it looks like they all talk in "sound bites" or "talking points" - It's basically a liberal love-fest.

The Hannity Board does not ban members because they're not Republicans.

The DU board will bounce you in a second if they get the slightest whiff of elephant.

Viet Cong Vets for Kerry Refute Swiftboat Book

(2004-08-05) -- To preempt the release of a new book questioning John Forbes Kerry's account of his service in Vietnam, the Kerry-Edwards presidential campaign announced it had received the endorsement of yet another military veterans group.

Viet Cong Veterans for Kerry (VCVFK), an ad hoc group of North Vietnamese soldiers who served in the early 1970s, said their support is "payback for all Mr. Kerry did for us in his 1971 testimony before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. He almost single-handedly put an end to U.S. atrocities against innocent Viet Cong soldiers and their families."

The Viet Cong veterans' support comes at a crucial time for the Kerry-Edwards campaign, just days before the release of Unfit for Command : Swift Boat Veterans Speak Out Against John Kerry.

"Despite what the American swiftboat veterans claim, we know that John Kerry is a true leader who lifted our morale at a time when we were concerned that we might lose the war," said an unnamed spokesman for VCVFK. "He is not a narrow nationalist who believes that America is always right. He's willing--even eager--to admit his own nation's shortcomings. This is the kind of man we need in the White House."

The above is from www.scrappleface.com
It is meant as a joke for intelligent people but I bet the DU's would take it serious.

That's just too funny.

Bunch o' liberals want to start a war against the conservatives. Yeah, that ought to last awhile. They should put it on pay per view, just like boxing.

I can see it now.

"Commentator 1: Here we are, the battle of the century, milenia, whatever.

Commentator 2: That's right, we have two determined groups, ready to fight to the death here.

In corner one, we have the Kerry's Kittens (meow). They are all wearing unwashed khaki during this bout, and their hair is all done in dreadlocks. They arrived today in Honda Elements. They are armed with campaign slogans,

In corner two, we have Bush's Bubbas, wearing all sorts of camo. They showed up today in a few HUMMERS and old ford trucks. They are armed will various battle rifles, pistols, knives and shotguns.

Commentator 1: Thats right. I can't help but think that the Kerry's Kittens are a little in over their heads today.

Commentator 2: Good Point. Kerry's Kittens have virtually no prior military experience, no hunting experience, in fact most of them are vegitarians and vegans.

Commentator 1: Big difference from the Bubbas over on the other side. Just this morning prior to the battle, they killed, skined and cooked a feral hog on the battlefield.

Not to mention that most of the Bubbas have prior military service, almost all of them are hunters, and they are very proficent with their firearms......"

Yeah, this should be fun to watch.

Funny, but their arguments about a civil war sounds like what was said about the ultra-liberal path the nation was following in the days of Clinton.

Guess it shows that there's no difference in the methods between ultra left and ultra right.

While it's healthy to disagree, we shouldn't kill each other about it. That was done enough during the late unpleasantries of the 1860s.

The media should discard any agenda and report things without inflaming the passions of the people. Naaa, it'll never happen. They can't sell advertising time if they did. I know, nationalize the media and then threaten to nationalize the attorneys and health care if anyone else makes a stink.

schromf, a few notes for you before you go calling the kettle black:

1. There should be a comma after "Actually."
2. "It is" is contracted as "it's," with an apostrophe.
3. It's "testimony," not "testamony."
4. It's "his or her," not "he/she's."
5. That should be a period, not a comma, after "teachers."
6. I guess you meant "they" when you typed "the"?
7. Sentences generally end with a period, a comma, a question mark or an exclamation point. Heck, use a couple dozen or so for effect if you want. But I'm pretty sure you don't need a period, then 23 exclamation points.

Now, that's only seven mistakes in one sentence. I'm glad you're smarter than those awful Democrats.

I totally disagree.

Every citizen has the right to vote. The abuses that would result from the government deciding who is knowledgeable enough to vote on an issue would topple our system. It's just a matter of time before the pendulum swings the other way and people who think differently than us are in control. Would you want them deciding you're not qualified to vote because your beliefs are different from theirs ? This is why we have a Constitution guaranteeing certain rights, to protect us from the tyranny of the majority as well as from tyranny of government.

Anyway, nothing coming from the mouth or mind of a liberal surprises me anymore. They generally have an illness called "diarrhea of the mouth and brain" that has no cure, but many have a natural immunity to it.

I feel sorry for those intellectual midgets. That is what happens when you forget to put enough chlorine in the gene pool to kill off the little mutant buggers. :p

Well, Kerry is not planning to take our guns away, but we all know that a President Kerry would sign any piece of gun-control legislation that reached his desk—much as President G. W. Bush would.

action barbi: What got you banned? I posted that "I'm an idiot" for looking after myself and not expecting others to do it for me (re health care). Or maybe it was "I'm an idiot, I should have married money and gone into politics."

Someone started a thread on the DU that said the Republican Party was the party for whites, I disagreed. I've been active on the Liberal forums for some months now and never a problem. I did mention that she must have paid some serious money for the substance that caused such a rift in reality though.

I think on the DU, if you are not raving and foaming at the mouth
in terms of hating conservatives and in particular Bush, and are not ready to back the hate with a civil war, then you are just too right wing for their tastes.

and priv8tr:
wonder...is the reason they don't want people to have guns because they don't trust themselves? I mean, anyone that gets that angry, I'm not sure I want them to have guns anyway.

One of my liberal friends told me exactly that, especially when she drives
that she couldn't trust herself with a gun.

Oh well!

My brother says that is the reason he won't own a handgun - he can't trust himself to not shoot someone in traffic. Its completly odd to me - i can't imagine shooting someone less they did something or threatened to do something to me. (aka - broke into my house (did something to me) or showed up at my front door w/ gun in hand (threatened to do something) - even then.... it would prolly be the first sign of one of us was going to lose our life over it before i'd act (decisively) <shrug> i don't understand people who's mindsets say they wouldn't be able to control if they pointed a gun at something and pulled the trigger..... its VOLUNTARY ... you'd have to decide to do it... are you that weak that you can't make those decisions?

bah...

Automatic revolvers.... have seen a semi on the history channel. Don't know how hard it would be to turn those into "fully auto" ... but since the magazine and other designs came out - that revolver didn't make it to the "next level" Forget its name now... but it WAS a semi automatic revolver....

I refuse anymore to take one second of their guff. I got into a small tiff the other day at of all places the rifle range. I had some bozo tell me that Kerry was planning to take everyone's gun away. I told him he was an out an out LIAR just like the rest of the Republicans and demanded he give me one instance where Kerry has ever uttered any such thing. He started back pedaling and I followed after him and called him a coward just like the chickenhawks he backs. He could not get away from me quick enough. I've had it. I am going on the offensive and by God they better be able to back their ???? up or catch my wrath. I will not be polite and humble any longer.

Kerry proposed a ban on any centerfire ammunition. I can come up w/ where i read that if i have to - but i DID read it in several places. That pretty much takes out "everyone's gun" less you consider everyone w/ a rimfire. As i recall - he was against anything semi-automatic too. So at that point yer at rimfire revolvers and bolt action rim-fires.... Never ran into any ammo that was rimfire and not a .22 ... so dunno - we are only allowed .22's in his opine?

as for "civil war" its no different than you guys who say vote from the rooftops.... its about as silly at any rate.

We were watching the protests and I said that if Bush steals another election, there would be civil war. I think that it would be nasty. And I'm liable to be one of the nastiest. Even though I'm normally a sweet Libra. But after these four years, I'm ready and willing to change.

oh pls. The protests just go to serve the fact that dems ain't as polished as republicans. I mean - they BOTH get a convention... didn't see a jackload of news coverage on the dem convention because republicans were breaking into the thing and causing trouble now did you? Bah SO tired of PEOPLE in general - let alone people who think they have the right to F)(* w/ other people just cause they disagree w/ em. Get a life - vote how you believe - but how can you .... PROTEST a convention of like minded people? OK OK OK - but if yer gonna protest... do it w/in the LAW stupid. You know - that thing you supposedly support... law... and order...

bleh

Bring it on. This very well armed and proud liberal is sick of the neocon
ROFLMAO - lovely he wants his new president to make his "very well armed" self ....er... less armed....

J/Tharg!

(pls excuse ANY and ALL spelling ... never claimed to be an english major)

EDIT - can't say i've really been political - but common sense says you don't support the people who won't support themselves. Far as i can see, thats what the dems seek to do, support those who won't support themselves. I can go w/ unemployment and even limited welfare... i can see how people think state healthcare is good - but just about NONE of them have lived in a state where that is the case (and from what i've seen - its not good) Welfare brings out the worst in people who seek to "use" the system (there are plenty of em) not gonna say that there are not people who have been on welfare/unemployment and didn't string themselves up by thier bootstraps - but THOSE are not the people who are wasting our tax dollars. Public health care is a joke - but so is the rampant suing of hospitals/docs etc that make a damn cutip used in a hospital cost six bucks.... I'll never understand people as a whole - since apparently they are so outside of reality that to see whats going on would be a "fantasy novel" to them.

Wow I started browsing DU because of bordem and I found the best quote on a different thread

I heard Mrs. Brady (Brady Bill) talking about the assault weapon ban on AAR today. If it expires, it'll be legal for 18 yr olds to buy long rifles although you still have to be 21 to buy a handgun. It'll be legal for gun shows to sell assault weapons and 100 clip rounds (whatever the term is) with no registration required (imagine how easy for terrorists, wanting to cause harm, to walk into said gun shows and stock up).

Such wonderfull discussions can be found here (http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=104&topic_id=2333172)

Where does that put libertarians in all this? They seem to deny the existence of us individual freedom lovers entirely. They can't seem to understand the concept of libertarianism. (neither can the Republicans, for that matter.) It's similar to the philosophy world's response to Ayn Rand: they simply ignore her. It's much easier to just pretend there's no elephant in the room rather than admit that you are wrong.

Sadly, personal liberty seems to be terribly out of style these days.

Or maybe they're waiting to see who wins the 2008 presidential election or maybe they're stockpiling their arsenals in their basements and waiting for THE DAY.

Or perhaps they're just a bunch a dimwit jabberjaws who dimly realize that a true CIVIL WAR would disrupt their cell phone service , close their favorite coffee shop, turn off the internet and make it impossible for them to constantly update their iPod's.

Didn't make me want to get an assualt weapon, but I was happy that John Kerry was a real man

So let me get this straight;

1. You actually *believed* that John Kerry was/is a hunter or would voluntarily kill anything had he not been putting on a big smoke and mirrors show for the potus race.
2. You don't like to see him kill things because you're a vegetarian, yet this is a positive, not a negative because he's a "real" man. (See #1)

The Full Auto Revolver (which btw, I wouldnt mind purchasing...) is most likely some dimwit that doesnt know the difference between a Glock 18 and a Revolver!

Next, I think I missed the Civil War, perhaps they didnt have a starbucks on the battle field? The world may never know.

Finally, IF these nuggets decide to come and fight, well, I got a nice .30 suppository for ya! Oh, and I can insert it from 600 yards!

PS: The rifle range thing has to be a joke. I have only been shooting for about a year, but the only arguments I EVER saw at a range involved calbur wars. Oh, and that one time I told a guy jokingly that his AK was a pellet rifle, and he didnt get the joke.*

*Gar, I hate doing this, but an explaination. WHen I first bought my Garand, one of the guys at the range told me that I couldnt handle it, and that it would make the AR-15 I was shooting look like a pellet rifle. Well, that statement basically circulated, so that most people there joked about it, and it became necessary for me to say something deroggatory about any rounds less powerful than the .30-06 every time someone brought it up. Anyway, Guy didnt get it, got red in the face, and realized we were all laughing at him. Long story even longer, I bought the guy a box of ammo, and all was good.

End of gun ban has little effect in state No increase reported in crimes using previously banned arms
BY J.L. MILLER / The News Journal
09/18/2005The predictions were dire. The expiration of the 10-year-old federal assault-weapons ban would flood the streets with AK-47s and other weapons of war.

With the one-year anniversary of the expiration of the ban passing quietly last week, the reality has proved much less grim. The assault-weapons ban went out with a whimper, not a bang.

Although precise figures are not available, police in Delaware have not reported an increase in crimes committed with previously banned weapons.

And area gun dealers say they have not seen an increase in demand, possibly because so many guns that had been legally manufactured before the law remained on the market through the decade-long ban.

But proponents and opponents of the legislation, which Congress declined to renew last year, remain divided on whether it accomplished anything -- and whether it should be reinstated.

"A year later, I still certainly feel we need the ban," said Sarah Brady, the Dewey Beach resident who founded the national gun-control group now known as the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence.

"Thank goodness we haven't seen any huge increase [in shootings]. That doesn't mean there isn't one around the corner," said Brady, whose husband, former White House press secretary Jim Brady, was seriously wounded after a 1981 assassination attempt on President Reagan.

Another key player in the gun-control debate also lives in Delaware: John Sigler, a retired Dover police captain who is first vice president of the National Rifle Association and the likely successor to its president, Sandra S. Froman.

"I'm not surprised there hasn't been much effect," Sigler said.

The assault-weapons ban's 10-year sunset provision, he said, "was a test, an experiment if you will, and during the course of that 10-year experiment, [then-President] Clinton's own Justice Department came to the conclusion that the ban would have no effect on the criminal use of firearms."

Delaware authorities do not keep track of the type of firearms used or recovered in crimes.

But, state police troopers have been involved in incidents that led to the arrest of people using weapons that were classed as assault rifles.

"Over the last year we've had four incidents where we recovered assault rifles," state police spokesman Lt. Joseph Aviola said. "That's down two from [the previous] year."

Detractors of the ban say it was merely cosmetic. The law banned combinations of such military features as flash suppressors and bayonet lugs, but the weapons themselves remained essentially unchanged.

The ban also played on a popular misconception "that somehow a semiautomatic firearm was synonymous with a fully automatic firearm," the NRA's Sigler said.

Fully automatic firearms, which fire a steady stream of bullets for as long as the trigger is held, are severely restricted under federal law and are illegal in Delaware.

Semiautomatics, the guns that were covered under the assault-weapons ban, fire one shot each time the trigger is pressed.

The ban also outlawed newly manufactured ammunition magazines holding more than 10 rounds -- and gun-control advocate Brady finds that perhaps the most disturbing aspect of the ban's demise.

"To me, I don't care cosmetically what [firearms] look like. It's what they're capable of doing," Brady said. "That's the problem, the problem being that you don't want the ability to fire many, many rounds very, very quickly."

Brady also fears that the expected congressional approval of legislation to shield firearm manufacturers and dealers from many lawsuits will prompt gun makers to unleash a new wave of increasingly deadly products.

"Now they're going to be immune, so that means Nellie bar the door," Brady said.

Sigler, though, called that prediction "more scare tactics."

Brady remains hopeful that the political pendulum, which has swung sharply in favor of gun-owners' rights in recent years, will swing again.

"I guess I'm an old enough broad, I've seen it swing so many times," Brady said. "The younger folks that work in my office, they get so downhearted, it breaks their heart when they see the way things are going. I tell them it will get better."

Meanwhile, John Massey, owner of Shooter's Supply in New Castle, is doing a brisk business -- in hunting equipment, not quasi-military rifles.

"We do a little bit of [business in assault-type guns], but it's not our main deal here," said Massey, who will order such a weapon if a customer asks.

"We prefer to carry the higher-quality guns," he said.

OK, having read that crap, I am going to vent..What we have to remember is those fools are serious, they would like to start a war......they have already talked about some states leaving the union....I am so sick and tired of liberals and their $***, :cuss: I wish they would start something so we could thin the herd. The country would be better off if a several million commie libs were gone...... I hate to say that but I really think that.

They are undermining the country. They are giving aid and comfort to the enemy by their words and deeds, going out every day on radio and TV for our enemies to see. They are truly putting us all in peril..When they are in power they really put us in danger. Who gave the N.Koreans the nuclear material they turned into weapons? Bill Clinton via a deal brokered by Jimmy Carter. Who gave the Chinese the technology to properly stage their Long March III missiles so they could get into space,(and thus hit the USA)? Loral Aerospace CEO Bernie Schwartz, with the blessings of Bill Clinton ( a technology transfer waiver) so the FBI could not touch him...Granted it was so they could launch sattelites, but they used it for weapons, big surprise. Now China who could only hit us with submarine launched missiles 15 years ago can land an ICBM into New York, Chicago, Cincinnati, etc......God deliver us from these idiots...If anyone doubts what I just wrote read Gertz's book "The China Threat" Or research it on the web,it is all there, scary.

So they want a civil war, they want us dead, good. I am up for the challenge if they start it.

They like to quote Thomas Jefferson, except when he advocates using guns. Here is one for them.

"The tree of Liberty needs to be watered from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants." That said please excuse me while I go out to Walmart and buy some more ammo. lol ;)

Oh and so I am not off the topic of firearms by too much I plan to use my FN FAL in 7.62 NATO during this war started by the libs and will probably carry my Kimber Warrior .45acp.....that should scare those little pansies back into Starbucks.

I wander over to DU every once in a while for amusment purposes- a constant theme irregardless of the topic seems to be their wanting someone else to do this or do that, as opposed to getting off their duffs and do something themselves- heck, some of these idiots are still screaming about the "stolen election" and how it can somehow still be overturned- I mean these people almost to 100% are certifiable- they also like to jump on the latest bandwagon leaving the last one unattended- before Katrina, the hot topic was "Cindy" this and "Cindy" that, using that moonbat's first name as if they all knew her personally- I've always had the idea that about 10% of the population might be a bit off kilter- then perhaps 10% of that group, one out of a hundred, that need careful observation- and that 10% of these that should not be walking around with the rest of us- fortunately they have congregated in one place for easy targeting, viola the DU!

I too have been known to lurk over there from time to time out of sheer morbid curiosity. Fringe segment.

Now that I've learned what a freeper is... what's a neocon?

They are to democrats what neocons are to republicans. Neocons are the sort who would strip-mine the Grand Canyon to produce tanks to invade Canada in their quest to take social Darwinism and manifest destiny to their inevitable conclusion.

It is quite deplorable that such bipedal monkeys are allowed to vote. We should start shipping those idiots off to Gitmo IMO, at least then they could get all touchy-feely with the terrorist scum that they aid and abet with their lunacy. After reading all that claptrap on the DU sight, I was struck by one perfectly clear fact... All of these wackos said that if GW Bush was re-elected, they were gonna do X. X is the Algebraic term of whole bunch of various things based off of Y. hehe.

Now, How many of these SFBs actually did any of the things that they said they were going to do? None. Yep, in the world of Hot Air, these people reign supreme! By the way, SFB stands for Stuff For Brains..... you can guess what Stuff stands for.

These people stand to as a shining example of what we like to call...Bottomhats. Replace the word bottom with your favorite expletive. You may remember Alec Baldwin solemnly swearing that he would move out of the country if GW was re-elected..... Hmmm, unfortunatly, he is still here. He qualifies as a....Bottomhat.

The one good thing about these people is, we know we can take em. We can slap the taste outta their mouth and watch as they sniffle about their latest wussy poetry recital. They are true parasites. They would not lift a finger to protect their country or themselves. They leach on to others who will defend them, but are such cowards that they mumble crap about violence, and yet don't want the resposibilities that come with a free nation.

They also rant about semiautomatic rambo killing machine weapons of mass destruction, while forgetting about Sarah B buying her son a deadly, scope-sighted, bolt-action terrorist sniper anti-tank rifle.

I know I should be amused. But I'm not.

Just remember: this is a world of "good freedom" and "bad freedom." "Bad freedom" is when anarchists get to express dangerous thoughts and tear art the fabric of soicety and oligarchosydncialistfacsistcorporatecapitalist facists get to steal your money and funnel it offshore, making america weak, when it should stay here paying a livinf wage to the poor disadvantaged working at WalMart and buying american made products wihch will recude hatred and ocmpetition and make the world a liberal democratic success!

"Good freedom" is hwen you have social health care and minumum wages and guaranteed huosing prices and job protections so you can maximiuze your qualutty of life without fear of competion from overseas and corporatefacistcaptilast whores and the CHinese, while building a world where we're borthers with the chinese, and you have free speech and everythig, esxcept were free speech would upset a muslim or a african american or a native american, but not a jew or chirstain or capilatist or racist or bigot, @#^@ them.

But, it is uplifting to know we live in a society where such people are not only not killed, but not silenced, and able to make so much noise and have access to computers and the press.

Gentlemen, gentlemen, I do hate to point this out, but...

There is such a thing as an automatic revolver: the .455 Webley-Fosbery, a UK creation from (I believe) Between the Wars. Picture a Webley sawn apart parallel to the barrel on a line midway between the trigger gaurd and cylinder. Pull the trgger and it goes bang, the upper part slides back just like the slide of a conventional semi-auto while the cylinder rotates halfway to the next chamber; at the back extreme of the motion the hamer is cocked and a recoil spring sends the whole mess forward while the cylinder rotates the remaining way to line up the next chamber. It's a fine example of British mechanical engineering: bizzare and reliable.

Of course they're uncommon* and anyone who would use one to hold up a liquior store rather than selling it is stupid even compared to other criminals; but the automatic revolver does exist.

(I could swear CDNN had a similar gun in one of their flyers in the last couple of years, too. Price was well over that of the typical Lorcin or Jennings).

...Anyone who thinks that was what the panicked DU poster was referring to should contact me, as I have rather a nice bridge in the NYC area for sale, priced to move....

No word on the mad Brits ever producing a full-auto version, alas. Of course, one six-shot burst and a four-second pause for hurried reloading (top break auto-eject; speedloader) isn't especially impressive; but it would certainly puzzle the boys on The Other Side!

--Herself

* If anyone would happen to have one of these they'd care to dispose of -- after all, parts are about impossible to find and the .455 rounds aren't cheap -- I would be willing to take it off your hands. Why, I'd even pay shippng and promise to show it to antis, too!

Awww, you say that about all the gun-girls!

Turns out I am not so all-fired clever as I thought: a very few Webley-Fosberys were chambered for the Brit .38-200 or whatever it is and one shows up the book version of "The Maltese Falcon." A good gun-geek working on the film caught it and corrected the caliber to the more common .455 -- but the movie gun is an eight-shooter! Of course, it never existed.

"Reliable British Engineering."

Lucas...

British Leyland...

I'm not going there.
Pleeeeeze? I've owned a couple of MGBs and gave my hubby a (ten-year-old) Jag XJ-6 a decade ago, and I am convinced the legendary unreliability of these cars is an artifact of not understanding how to take care of them.

The MGB is a "toy car." All but the very last of them are extremely simple and very accessable. They require a lot of fussing with. They were designed with the hobbyist in mind. If you treat them like a Chevy, they will bite you in the rump. If you follow the recommended maintenance, you will spend more time on your car than you might like but you'll have a fun little car with decent city performance.

You can even change the oil of a 'B sitting flat on the driveway!

The Jaq was more of a thoroughbred. It, too, required careful maintenance on the recommended schedule. Once all the long-ignored "minor" problems (like the steering rack!!!) were fixed, it was reliable and fun, if a bit "thirsty" at the gas pump. Frighteningly quiet on the road, on the highway it was up to 80 before you knew it. And driving sitting on fine leather seats with honkin' big Smith's instruments on a slab of burl walnut before you was a delightful experience. Best car I ever drove, period. Wish we still had it.

I do electronics for a living. Lucas electrics are not hard to troubleshoot and fix. With MGs, the usual problem is that rusty or missing sheet metal does not conduct electricity very well; we can't blame Lucas for that! The Jag had a few bad switches (ten years old when we got it!), the local dealer had them in stock and I installed them. All the electic doohickeys worked a treat -- door locks, multi-adjustable seat, etc.

The fact is, the Brits don't make computers because they can't figure out how to make them leak oil.
Nope. :D A Brit invented a computer that would leak oil all over -- and would have required manual oiling! They've been irked ever since the Babbage Engine never quite got off the ground, and who can blame them? They'd've had a 150-odd (very!) year start on the whole computer revolution if things had worked out only a little differently. Think of it -- a steam-driven desktop PC, all glittering brass, gleaming steel and fine hand-rubbed woodwork... Okay, it would be the desk.

And just think of the lead they would have had in navigation and gunnery! Imagine the Royal Navy with WW II-type fire control computers, a century before WW II came along! ...Didn't happen. Probably just as well, they might've tried to reclaim the 'States.

The thought of having to touch a gun makes my skin crawl to start with.

You see everywhere that uzis and other assualt weapons are for sale everywhere, CNN just had a special on it. I know for a fact I don't want to live in a country where my 6 year old can buy a gun from the ice cream man.

I read an article in the local newspaper about a guy that robbed a liquor store with a fully automatic revolver, do you want to live in a country like that?

I've heard the extremeist left talk of civil war before, but they all forget which side has all the guns. And of course there's the fact that they are pretty much all talk and whine, but no action. What a clever bunch we have here, the AWB was repealed and what happened? Nothing. And there was a SEMI-auto revolver made, but never full auto. Ever.

Edwards talked of the "common people who can't afford to feed their kids" (I guess I live in a state full of uncommon people then, because obesity is a problem here, and we had to hit four restaurants in the "$100+ to feed four people" category to find one that wasn't jammed).

Goreon's email was too dull to finish, and apparently Enron has powerful friends in the Republican party, despite being bankrupt, out of business and with its principle officers facing jail time.

Then, of course, "Dick Cheney" (at least it wasn't "Karl Rove") hacked the system and warned everyone how HORRIBLE it would be if they actually helped make phone calls.

That they're spending so much effort trying to turn out the vote (Which they did by calling everyone on THEIR OWN list, including agents provocateurs like myself) indicates a serious fear. That they claim 3.2 million members, but can't get a group party together within 30 miles of where I live, and had only 700 home showings of the movie they couldn't get a real distributor for (That's telling...not even direct to video).

And I notice the conservative gun owners of the nation not only haven't shot them, hanged them or dragged them to their deaths behind their SUVs, but barely seem to be aware of them except to laugh at them.

Tell me what a horrible society we have again?
