I work during the day and everytime I have something shipped ups, I have to drive to the ups facility to pick it up when a signature is required.
I recently ordered 5000 rem 2.5 primers when they were in stock.
I came home saw the sticker and went online to have them held for pickup.

The ONLY option was to return to sender or be home during the redelivery.
I called the number on the sticker and asked for them to be held.
The woman I spoke with said she didn't have the option to do this and that I should contact the shipper.

I called midway and never got an answer as to whether this was exclusive to hazmat items or everything leaving midway requiring a signature.

Why on earth couldn't a man drive to the facility and pick them up?

I've never ordered hazmat labeled materials before and was wondering if this is the norm or something exclusive to midway.

My UPS driver doesn't care, I never left instructions to leave anything on the porch. Some items specifically say "Adult Signature Required" but there it sits on my porch. Items like primers, powder, ammo, uppers, and even a 1600 dollar camera. Just sitting there on my porch in the city without my permission.

It's not UPS being "difficult", it's because the shipper selected "no exceptions". Meaning no holds, no redirects, no exceptions to delivery at the designated address.

You need to contact the shipper to remove the no exception tag.

having a neighbor sign works for me. However, my driver leaves everything no matter what. Primers, rifles, synthesizers, entire drum kits, lol

When I order from MidwayUSA, or other online sources, I specify counter pickup as my shipping address at the time of order. My home address is the billing address.

I've picked up primers, powders, and everything else that way. Never had a single problem. Since it is the shipping address specified at time of order, there is no delivery exception to be triggered. When it is shipped, lookup the tracking number on the UPS website and print the page. It helps them find the package when you pick it up.

Order them from someone else. I have ordered primers from Wideners and you don't have to sign for them. I'm sure there are others that are as easy to deal with.

Can't speak for UPS but FEDEX, from the CMP and Grafs, holds "adult signature" stuff for me at the hub no problem. I'd rather put up with the repeated telephone reminders to pickup my items than having to wait around for the truck to deliver them to me.
