Favorite Grips for your GP100 or SP101?

Pachmayr Compacts on my Ruger SP. Handfilling and recoil absorbing without excess bulk.

Trausch grips are what I ordered. There smaller than Hogue and not as grippy so they will leave your clothes alone, they beat the Pachmyar Compac hands down.

One of the things that drew me to these Rugers, in the first place, was the excellent factory grips, as if the grip designer for Ruger had hands just like mine. Of course, recently, Ruger went with Hogues on the GP100, a huge step backward, IMHO. I absolutely loathe Hogue finger-groove grips.

For a GP100 or SP101 I don't think there is enough improvement that can be gained over the factory grips that would make swapping them for another brand worthwhile, cost-effective, or better looking. I have a different opinion when considering my scoped Super Redhawk with a 9.5" barrel, which also has the GP100-sized grips. In this case, the stock grips feel somewhat thin, and a set of Hogue's gives you much more control when hefting the heavier gun.

I got Rosewood inserts for our SP101. www.altamontco.com had them for $14 plus shipping.
My wife likes them a lot. You still use the rubber grips ~ just change the inserts.

Really, the grips are well designed and harnesses recoil very well. The cheap looking plastic inserts are what detracts.

Well others may differ but my humble opinion is the Stock wood rubber grips are the best. I compete and made my distinguished revolver with a 6" stainless GP-100. I bought a hogue and pachmayr and neither worked as well as. If you still think you would like to try an aftermarket grip, send me a PM and I'll go dig'n into my stuff I don't use box. Also have an SP101 in .32 H&R, What a sweetie. Smooth double action and quite accurate.

I put Hogue Monogrips on my SP's. My knuckle was getting pounded by the trigger guard with the factory grips, and the recoil was uncomfortably sharp. The Hogues fixed all of those problems for me.

+1 hogue. I replaced the stock grips on my sp101 with the monogrips, the magnums are much more enjoyable to shoot now. They fit great, and were super easy to install. If I were to carry the sp, I'd probably opt for a smaller wood grip, but for an actual shooter, the hogues are perfect.

Absolutely. These are perfect grips for the SP-101. Smaller than the originals, but much better at absorbing recoil.

I like the original factory grips, I just changed out the inserts.

How much longer are the Hogues than the stock grips. How do they conceal in comparison. I have Hogues on my 642 and I like it the SP Hogues just look a lot bigger.

The old fashioned Ruger rubber grips with wood insertions are my favorite.

To me the Hogue grips they use now pale in comparison.

I'm with 8emem. I don't think there's much to be gained by swapping grips on an SP101.

But I also think those plastic inserts are YUCK

Someone else mentioned Altamont grips.
I can very highly recommend them.
They supply S&W with some of their grips. (I have Altamonts on my S&W M36)

These are not Altamont, but you can see how they dress up the gun.

Try a couple and see what feels natural and shoots straight.

I tried Hogue Rubber, OEM Rubber, and Hogue wood on my GP100

I get the best accuracy with Hogues, rubber or wood. I think it is because I get a very consistent grip and it puts my trigger finger on the trigger just right. The OEM rubber grips are too small for me and I get to much of my finger on the trigger. (My glove size is a standard Large)

The wood Hogues allow me a smoother more natural draw because they allow the gun to shift a little bit as I draw. The rubbers stick and require effort to get the grip right.

So that's how I came to use Hogue wood grips with a GP100.

I picked up factory seconds for less than half price at their auction site.

For anyone with the Pachmayr compacs on a SP101. How snug should they fit. I received a pair today and they rock back and forth a little. As for feel oh wow they point like my finger.

The Pach compacs will rocks a little bit. I've put several hundred rounds thru mine since I put them on and they are fine. Aren't they just awesome though? Most comfortable grips I have of any gun.

Unfortunately, anyone who buys a new GP100 (as I just did - 3" bbl fixed sight model) gets those awful-looking hogues with the finger grooves. Those are actually fairly comfortable for me since I have massive hands, but the problem is that I am building this gun to be my main carry piece, so massive grabby hogues don't exactly work. I ordered a set of Eagle Secret Service grips for the gun and am currently waiting for these to ship.

Anyone else have experience with the Eagle Secret Service grips for the GP100?

Not on a SP101, but I do like checkered Ebony SS grips on my S&W638.

I'd like to find some sp101 inserts w/Masonic logo.

On my SP-101 I have Hogue wood grips that I ordered with ONE finger groove. They are a round butt style so work well with the small gun. Hogue offers a number of wood selections, no, one and 3 finger grooves, smooth or checkered with or without butt cap. On my GP-100 it currently sports Hogue Kingwood grips with NO grooves and grip cap. Unfortunately, it is a square butt design with sort of a duck bill at the bottom lower part of grip in the rear. It is too bad Hogue does not offer round butt grips for the GP.

Other than Hogue Eagle and Badger make wood grips in a number of configurations and woods. Roy Fishpaw, I am sure, would make a set in about any wood and configuration but is not inexpensive. Herrett's offers a number of styles and woods and many can be made to fit your hand. The unfortunate part of the latter, though, is the gun needs to be sent to them for fitting which drives up the cost. If I had it to do over I would get a Herrett Roper style for the GP. I had a set on a Redhawk that were made to fit my hand and they positioned by hand correctly for double action which the Herrett did not (too large in girth).

At one time Ruger offered Rosewood grips for the GP in the same configuration as the original rubber grips that can sometimes be found on auction sites.

+1 on the Hogues.

The thing that I really like about the Hogues is how the fill in the space behind the trigger guard. They help tame recoil and I have ZERO problem concealing a 2.25 SP.
