I'm finally going to bite the bullet and try ordering primers online. seems like I can save 5-10 dollars a box. (I know, buy in bulk to offset hazmat and shipping)

Wideners and powder valley each have decent prices. Are there any other places ya'll can recommend?

I buy my primers from midwayusa.com. If you beat their prices I don't think it would be by much.
If you are one of Midways internet customers they are all time sending emails offering discounts.

Comparing federal small-pistol primers:
Midway: $32.49
Powder Valley: $25.50

Significant difference.

Regarding coupons, right now, there are coupon codes for 10% off coupons for $100, Also another downside to ordering primers AND powder from midway is you get charged a double hazmat fee, since they drop-ship their powder.

You pay for another box of primers with all the shipping and Hazmat fees included, which is why I buy mine at gun shows, also no taxes. Powder too.

....powder valley will apply one hazmat fee to an order and you can get propellant and primers at the same time....

Grafs has free shipping and sometimes, if you buy enough will knock 50-100% off the hazmat fee. Powder Valley is cheaper even with shipping charges but its not a whole lot.

For the month of January, Powder Valley will pay shipping on the entire order if you buy 5,000 or more Tula primers. They've been great every time I've ordered.

Tulausa is actually just down the road in round rock. I guess if I have any problems I can go see them in person. I talked to a gal there, she seemed nice.

Stupid question: What rifle primers for 5.56 and 7.62 are sufficiently hard/safe for use in military rifles with floating firing pins? Or can you use anything as long as you seat them below flush?

CCI makes special military hardness primers, but I've found them so hard that they don't reliably ignite. I believe that if you seat properly you shouldn't have to worry about it.

The Tula Cartridge Works was founded in 1880 and is based in Tula, the Russian Federation.

When I could afford to buy in bulk I was buying from Powder Valley. They are great to deal with, have low prices and like said above, charge only 1 Hazmat fee even when you order both powder and primers.

If and when prices drop enough to be able to buy in Bulk again I will again buy from Powder Valley.

Right now PV has this special going on:

FREE FREIGHT - Order one or more case (5,000) of Tula primers and we will ship to you freight free. You can add up to 45 lbs of additional product to your order under the same hazmat charge of $25.00. Insurance is $0.50 per $100. (Does not include media)

This is the freight only still need to pay the Haz-Mat. It is still a savings of around $20.
