Best power powder dispenser?

I can't speak for the other two but I really like my RCBS combo. It's fast enough for my needs but occasionally will throw a charge over what it is set for -- depending on the powder. The electronic scale is also extremely accurate when I compare charges to my beam scale. FWIW.

kinda a loaded response but..... What powder measure is not accurate and in what ways? There are powders that drop well with powder measures and there are powders that do not drop as well as others.... if a press manufacturer includes a scale or powder drop system in it's kit -- then rest assured it's accurate when used exactly as prescribed.

If you just want one of the cool auto dispensers...then that's another story -- just didn't want you throw down that cash thinking that's the only way to go....unless you wanted to of course.

I have the RCBS unit. What I like about it is the speed and lack of drift. I dunno how stable the other two are.

When it comes to the scale-dispenser combo units, I have heard nothing but good reviews on the RCBS combo. I don't have the dispenser part - yet. I bought the 1500 scale part of it by itself but I am leaning toward getting the dispenser soon because my rifle loading needs have increased. The only problem I have heard regarding the Lyman unit is that it is verey slow when dispensing big powder charges, like you get with the big magnums. The Hornady combo is relatively new compared to the others so we haven't heard of the warts yet. It is suspiciously similar to the Chinese-made unit called Smartreloader ISD something. That one is even cheaper than the Hornady.

I am kinda committed to the RCBS path now that I have the disppenser, but I would consider the Hornady and I believe PACT makes one also.

Given the price and purpose, there will be an extremely small number of people - if any - that has owned all 3 units and thus no one will be able to give you a solid answer. I have read good reviews on the Hornady and ended up buying that one. So far so good.

All 3 get good reviews, but the Hornady was cheaper.

"Best" is big word. Fact is, if there were a 'best' of anything, the market would have pushed the rest of its competion out.

I found my RCBS one excellent. Its super easier to use, once adjusted, its very fast (I drop 42grains of RL15 in average of 9seconds), and out of 50 drops, I maybe have to adjust 2 of them (usually 0.1 or 0.2g over). It makes precision loading so much easier, but yeah, its costly. I got mine on sale for $250 shipped and it was a no brainer for me at the time. I drop all rifle rounds except my cheap plinking round of 223 which I use the Lee Pro Auto Disk unit for and it gets me to .1 of the target load I am looking for).

I am very curious to hear reports from anyone who buys the Smartreloader iSD. But I don't want to be the first one to buy from that outfit. Swiss engineering, Italian design, Chinese manufacturing... what's not to like?

Your friend will know your shooting habbits, the cartridge(s) you reload, the powder(s) you are having issues with, and the current powder measure that's not dropping consistently...

Sometimes the replies given don't answer the question specifically asked but are the answers needed read -- in other words we are all trying to help steer you in the direction that will work out the best.

I am in agreement with ranger335v...slow down and use a balance scale, a powder trickler, and if you want extremely accurately loads, then calibrate your balance scale with a set of check weights.

And as Mr. rfwobbly points out...use a set of check weights that are in the same weight range as your measured load(s).

I use the Lyman 1200 DPS. It's a good unit so far, no issues. It's pretty sensitive. It's pretty much maintained it's +- 1/10 gr measurements provided I didn't knock it around or subject it to too much movement (like seating a bullet during a measurement). I check mine pretty frequently with the beam scale.

I read in the instructions to take care to keep it still while it is operating. They're not kidding about that.

I'm not entirely sure how long the larger loads take in reference to Funshooter45's post. I can go out tomorrow and run a few of the 30-06 loads to give you guys a reference point if you'd like.
