A buddy of mine took delivery of a 'new' gun yesterday. It is a Ruger Redhawk in .357 mag. Just WOW! What a 'tank' of a gun! I asked him what kind of concealment holster he would need for it!

I'll (hopefully) get to shoot it soon. Think it will handle +p loads? HA Looks like it would handle 'nuclear' loads!

If you could stuff a 500 round in it it would probably handle it let alone whimpy +p rouns in .357. Shoot, you could probably shoot +++++PPPPPP++++ in it.

True story. Ruggedest mainstream revolver of all the big companies BY FAR. I have an old Ruger Blackhawk .357 and it has had the crap shot out of it with every load known to man (not really but just about) and it still never misses a beat.

Seriously, there's no factory ammo out there that will hurt a Redhawk! In fact, if you pick up a box of Buffalo Bore 357 "heavy" you'll see in the fine print that it's only recommended for Redhawks and Super Redhawks. Those things will safely fire anything you can get into the chamber.

that is kinda scary awesome, I have no experience with redhawks, one of my closest friends has a .44 super blackhawk from his dad and a .22 and .357 blackhawk from his grandfather, i love the things, and have never seen an issue with them.

i wasnt aware that ruger made a redhawk in .357. i know they make a blackhawk in that chambering but had never heard of a .357 redhawk, was it discontinued a while back or something? all of a sudden i feel like im missing out on something awesome:eek:

I was wondering about that myself. Not a Blackhawk single action?

My cousin had a blackhawk or red hawk. Can't remember. It was 15something years ago. It was magnaported and talk about a cannon. I never had the privlidge to shoot it though.

I'd never heard of that either. Just looked at Ruger's site to be sure and it's only a .44 Mag today, as I had thought.

One can only guess they decided a GP100 was plenty big and ended production of even bigger.

I think the Redhawk was introduced in the late '70's to early '80's. I've also seen conflicting information as to when the .357 model was in production. One source says that the blued model was discontinued in 1985, while another one has it as 1991. Production of the stainless model seems to have been from 1984 to 1991. Any Ruger experts please feel free to correct or add any additional information to these dates.

According to 'Ruger & His Guns', by R. L. Wilson, the 5.5" KRH355 and 7.5" KRH35, both SS .357 Magnums, were only made from 1984-1991. No listing for a blued variant, like an RH355/RH35, was given. The .357 Magnum RH is a keeper... several '+P+' applications exist - see John Taffin's excellent books. I owned a .45 Colt RH from new for a few years - no thank you on anything RH but the rare .357 Magnum here. Similarly, an original SP-101 in .38 Special would be neat.

BTW, the .454 Casull was only made in the SRH frame - not the RH.
