Are gun sales slowing down or picking up

Based on last week's HGCA gun show I'd say things have definitely slowed down compared to the last few shows. Prices were generally up, but I found decent prices on what I wanted and didn't have to stand in line to do the paper work, the past few shows it could take and hour to get your turn.
 
Neither...tastes are changing. The little 380s are passe' now. Battle rifles are back in. Small, poly revolvers are flying out of the shop (bodyguard, lcr), and Kimbers are still in demand (Solo, especially) and in short supply. Some days are good, some not. Just like always.

Here in the Republik of Illinois, should, and I say should, the ccw bill finally get enough general assembly folks with a pair to pass, the flood gates will open up again for all small carry guns.
 
I'd say there is a steady buyer's market in progress nationwide.

Shops are well stocked and some panic prices (from a year or two ago) have dropped to more reasonable levels. Deals abound for the discriminatory shopper due to the poor economy. There are a lot of distress sales due to job loss or immediate cash needs.

However, lately I've noticed a LOT of apparent first time buyer "Want To Buy" ads in both newspaper classifieds or on-line trade/sale boards. Most of these requests are for home self defense or CCW type weapons.

I think that the American public is nervous...
 
depends on how you look at it, Historically its still bangin', but compared to the 'Obama rush' its declining
 
Sales have slowed in PA. My friend who manages the gun department at a local sporting goods store (one of the better established LGS in my area) says sales of most HDR's and especially AK's are slowing and prices are beginning to come down, except for WASR's, which he says Century has just raised prices on. IIRC, CZ has also cut prices a bit.
 
I think just the AR market is stalled really, Ive seen ARs worth $800 easy not move until they hit like $650 on some boards
 
This is purely my opinion...but I think the market is a tad flooded after the buying frenzy at the end of 2008.

Guns are still being bought and sold, but many of them are LNIB used guns. (and that slows sales of new guns a bit)
 
It depends on the area, and the type of guns you are talking about. Here in my area, Vero Beach. My neighboors and my friend with the gun store seem to point to tactical weapons, and small carry pistols. Lcp's to Saigas, anything that delivers heavy firepower for the home, and pocket pistols, for CCW. I don't see the high end guns selling like they did. I just ordered a Polish underfolder. It is deadlly accurate for the distance which I may need it simple to operate, "so my wife can fire it if necessary", and in expensive, half the price of an AR. My Glocks are now all carry guns, G30 and G26, and a couple of pocket pistols for a second carry. I always carry 2 now. There were 4 bump and robs today in Palm Beach and Broward. In 2 of them they shot the driver as soon as he or she got out of the vechicle, before robbing them. I gave my wife strict instructions, "new car" just drive to the closest Police station if someone taps you. I don't care if she gets pulled over by police on her way, just stay in the car.

I never really noticed how much worse you folks in Illinois have it than us folks in California. If you want to spell your state to indicate your belief that it has many fascist qualities you can only put a "K" in Republik of Illinois.

In California there are so many choices: California, California, Kalifornistan... many other variations. Illinoisistan just doesn't have the same "Those Damn Fascists!" impact.
 
Gun sales seem to be steady in the area that I live. All of the local gun
stores in the area I live seem to be doing about the same as they were
when Obama was elected in 2008. Before then, business was noticeably
slower than it is now. Ammunition sales have slowed down some, there
is more ammunition on the shelves now and a better selection of calibers.
There was a mad rush on ammunition right after the 2008 election but things
have cooled off some during the past year or so where I live. (Wake County
North Carolina) Concealed carry permit applications have gone up dramatically
during the past two years in my home county because of the increasing number
of people moving in and an increase in the number of crimes. (another murder/
robbery occured last night for example)

It appears they have returned to "normal." The 2008 frenzy caused a short spike in gun sales and prices. One good side effect from it is ALOT of people became interested in firearms. Also, we will probably see a good bit of LNIB guns come up for sale soon from those that bought them but don't really care.

Ammo is becoming more available (finally) prices are still climbing though. I think most of the "SHTF Hoarders" have stockpiled enough factory ammo OR realized they can reload at home without having to remove their tinfoil hats. (Not a dis' against reloaders, unless you are of the "The End is Near" whacko variety.) Other reasons for the price increase are the ACTUAL increase of raw materials, the declined value of the US dollar (gotta LOVE greenback money;)) and profit-making from supply and demand.

I don't think we will see a panic like we did during the last election, at least not until the next one.:rolleyes: (IMO even then it won't be on such a grade scale as 2008.) That is assuming the Aztec Calendar predicted End of the World doesn't happen before the election.:banghead: (Personally, I don't put TOO much stock in a 300+ year predictions from a society that couldn't figure out how to make a pair real shoes.;) just sayin')
 
For me personally, gun purchases have slowed down radically. I bought hot and heavy during 2008-2010; but bought very few in 2011. My gun safe is fat and happy!!! :cool:
