.45 ACP - What powder to buy next?

I load alot of MBC 200gr LSWC. I use Unique and like the results.

And what pray tell is the problem with 231? I've used Universal Clays myself,burns cleaner than Unique.

I like WST for my 200 grain LSWC bullets. 231 and Unique are some of my favorites also.

Unique is good. Alliant says 5.4 gr gives 790 fps with a 200 gr LSWC.

I use bullseye or red dot, both work well.

I like the Red Dot I've been using, FWIW.

Nothing wrong with continuing W231, I use Bullseye mostly with 200 LSWC, W231 and Unique for full power jacketed bullets.

I use Bullseye. It works fine. However, it's not going make things any cleaner. If you want clean, switch to jacketed or plated bullets. I've not used 231, but I seem to recall a reputation for being a decently clean powder. If you are using mild to moderate charges, generally warmer to hot charges help clean things up (Unique is a good example of this).

I've always used either Clays (Not Universal) or my personal favorite, American Select.

I've been using Unique for 45 ACP for many years. Granted, I'm just making target/plinking loads but it works, so I would need a compelling reason to try something else.

Well, it does depend on how many rounds you shoot in a session, and if you do actually want to clean it that often.

I've run hundreds in a match or training day -- enough to gum up the works pretty well using some especially dirty powders.

I also generally clean my practice/match guns only when they "need" it, and that seems to be generally something between 500 and 1,000 rds between swabbings. With this many rounds behind me, I appreciate knowing my guns are reliable regardless of whether they've been intimately familiar with a cleaning patch recently or not.

Running a powder that leaves less crud behind helps with that.

I've used Unique for years in my 45ACP loads. I find it no dirtier than others. The cleanest? Who knows as most of the visible crud is from the bullet lube of cast loads. Functioning has never been an issue ever after hundreds of rounds in a few days.

I use 5.1 gr of WST behind a 200gr FP (Berry's Plated) so this should be just fine with you lead. This is a very clean burning load light recoil. Just remember that lead is going to be dirtier than a jacked bullet.

I use 231 for the majority of my 45 ACP loads but have also found WST to be really good with my 216 gr LSWC loads.

I just switched from Bullseye to N310. Cleaner, but costs about twice as much. either is better than Unique for light target loads. Unique comes into its own for heavier Hardball loads.
