FNH FNP vs. FNX

Main difference? Fully ambi controls on the FNX rather than the reversible mag release of the FNP, more aggressive grip texturing/stippling on the FNX, and most of the features of the FNP USG variant are standard on the FNX. FNX also carries one extra round in the 9mm.

Did FN ever fix that annoying issue of having to push the magazine forward a little to get it to lock in and not fall out?

When I was considering one a while back that was one thing that made me pass on it.

It seems they did and that the issue was only with earlier models. I was just comparing the two and ended up getting an FNP but only because I found a good deal on a used one. I still would have preferred the FNX.

I got the FNP as NIB with 5mags. At the price of $40 per extra mag nothing could have beaten the price.
I'm kinda a Glock guy so I have yet to shoot the FN but maybe it will convert me.

I've never tried the FNP so I can't discuss that, but I do like my FNX-9 very much. Light weight without the recoil of a light weight gun. No failures with mine so far.

I have a FNP9 USG and I've been very happy with it. For the money, I think it's the best 9mm value on the market right now other than a Beretta 92FS. It's light, very accurate, and the trigger is surprisingly good.

As for the FNX9, I've read that FN messed with the mag catch and mag release where they shouldn't have. Lots of threads out there where the magazine simply falls out of the gun, but I can't personally vouch for that as I don't own that version.

By the way, mine has an ambi decocker AND safety. Sweet.

i've wanted to try an fnx 40 now for a while. I've heard good and bad reviews on them. One review i read from a owner said that the safety/decocker actually digs into your hand real bad during recoil. Plus i wish on the two tone model they would have put a blued barrel in, inside of the stainless.

The FNP that I'm looking at LGS has a 10 round mag.

Will FNP take FNX 17 round mags?

Nope. The ambi mag release of the FNX means it takes a slightly different mag. That was a big complaint with the FNX line, it wasn't compatible with the FNP mags and vice versa.

I agree the FNX mag release is messed up. There have been people sent their gun back to FN due to the mag dropping out. And they got the gun back with the same problem. FINALLY they realize it's cuz they're hitting the ginormous mag release button while shooting.

If you use a high thumb, ala a 1911 style grip, then the lever does dig into your hand. I probably could have gotten used to it, but I disliked the levers for other reasons, as well. So they're now gone.

All that said, my FNX-40 is probably my favorite shooter. Hi capacity, low weight, near 9mm level recoil, and very accurate. The gun is magic. I had an all metal Cougar 8040F which weighed quite a bit more, and the FNX has about the same felt recoil but with less muzzle flip and is more accurate (for me).

I've never had any problem seating a magazine. But if I did have that problem, it sounds like nothing 20 seconds with a file wouldn't fix.

The other supposed difference, per FN's marketing, is a lower bore axis. I believe they take credit for this based on a slight redesign of the backstrap/beavertail to allow a higher grip.

I have the FNP 45 USG, which is really an FNX. It looks just like the FNX and has the same features. The gun is great in every way except aftermarket support. Be prepared to have little options in accessories.

I've also heard/read that FNH's customer service has gone down hill after they laid off Bob Ailes and some other long timers. I haven't needed any CS, but I hear they only care about military contracts now.
