Take a Romanian Draco, put tapco side folder on it, and put a muzzle attatchment on it, and take what imo is just a novelty AK rifle and turn it into a devoted carbine... and i'm sure it's been done before, but i would be intrested in making one myself oneday...

Many, many times. There's a whole forum on AK47.net devoted to it. It's widely considered to be one of the cheapest and technically easiest ways to SBR an AK. They're sometimes called "the poor man's Krinkov" and they're a lot of fun to shoot. Throw some pretty serious fireballs too.

it's not like dracos are expensive... yes, i'll start out with an actual AK rifle, but i am building me an Draco SBR one day when i have some free time...

alemonkey... that thing is the next best thing to jesus resurrected...

^Truth. If you have a chance wander over to http://www.ak47.net and check out the AK pistols forum. There's a whole picture thread devoted to dracos and about half of them have had stocks attached to make them SBRs. Makes you really jealous of some of those guys.

Those are pretty cool looking but what kind of velocity are they getting out of them? Do AK bullets rely on fragmentation like most FMJ AR bullets?

AK bullets rely on tumbling to produce their damage. A Draco gets about 2000ish FPS at the muzzle with a 11.5" barrel.

Dude, make up your mind...a few posts back, you were complaining about the price of ALL guns in general, including the low-cost AK option, the WASR....now a day or two later, and Draco's are "inexpensive"? I don't follow your logic, not in the slightest. Your posts seem to directly contridict themselves.
i was actually complaining about the price of an Arsenal and all those other high dollar guns, most of these romanians and all the other milsurp AKs aren't that steep, would still hurt my wallet, but not unreasonably priced...

I doubt its been done before. Who would go through the trouble of SBRing some thing and then use a crapco stock?

Much cooler would be to use just about any other stock because tapco side folders are very low quality (not to mention IMHO they are unsightly). Then instead of a barrel extension (what is the point if you want something that long get any other AK with a 16" barrel) pay $200 and wait and have an sweet legal SBR.

Do Dracos exist for any other reason than to make an SBR? (I know some people have the debatable idea it is a useful thing to carry in their car in states with stupid laws).

imo a draco hardly qualifies as a "pistol"

it fires rifle bullets, uses hi cap rifle mags, uses the action of a rifle, and has rifle sights... imo it already is a SBR just minus a buttstock...
