Can you tell me if the keys and revolver locks for all S&W revolvers are all the same? For an example, will one key fit many S&W revolvers?
Thanks

Gaaah.... can you imagine the headache if they weren't? I don't even know where the key to my 642 has disappeared to.

Of course, I've removed the damn lock and plugged the hole, so no worries.

Plenty of the key lock guns have had their flags pop to "half-mast" at the range before . . . totally locking up the revolvers and generally forcing the gun to be returned to S&W to free 'em up.

If it happened in a gun fight for your life . . .

Handguns are a lethal weapon of last resort generally . . . sort of like an emergency parachute on a jumper. Locks thus have no place on parachutes or handguns, IMHO.

I picked up a 642 that had the lock. Bought a replacement plug from a guy on the S&W forum and got rid of the internal lock!

SITUATION... 3 a.m. .... burglar downstairs... do you, A - Call 911? OR B - Call a locksmith to come and unlock your pistol cause you lost the key ? .... HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

I've heard plenty of gripes on the forums about this, but I have only heard of two verified instances of this happening.

It rarely happens but nobody wants them on their guns. It's like if a car company started putting those DUI contraptions in every car they made. I never had a DUI and don't want to blow in a tube just to start my car. Even though they may never break,If the thing ever malfunctioned, I wouldn't be able to drive anywhere so why would I want it there? Unfortunately, this seems to be a mainstay with a few companies until they stop listening to the BS from lawyers and start listening to their customers.

Actually, it's more like if every car company started putting anti-lock brakes and traction control on every car if they wanted to sell cars in California and a few other states.

Not nearly as bad as those DUI contraptions on every car!

I still contend if the locks were causing 0.001 % of the problems reported on the lier net?
S&W would already have been sued out of business by the walking wounded and widows of the guys killed in SD gunfights by locks magically locking up on them!

Just one jury award would be a gazillion dollars they don't have.
And it hasn't happened!

There's a vid on YouTube of a performance centre revolver locking up during firing requiring a trip back to smith and wesson. im hunting for a 686p but first thing I'll do is take out the lock. there's a bloke in the states that makes plug that's a simple drop in to match the pistol. might get onto that...
