Folks, don't do this.
When re-assembling your beloved LR308B, do not forget to install the firing
pin. Sounds simple doesn't it. - - - - - Its not.
What happens is that when the pin does not go through the bolt cam pin, the cam pin can and will turn 90 degrees and lock up the action with about 3/8" of BCG travel.
You then will spend a while fiddling with the BCG, puliing it back & forth peering into the firing pin hole with a little flashlite hoping that the cam pin will turn back. Which it did ultimately. However in the meantime, there were a few words employed that children shouldn't hear and the dog ran and hid in the farthest room from the shop. :cuss: The vast majority of the language was directed by me toward myself.
This after the day before at the range where the LR308 mystified the local guru by shooting one 4 rd group of 1/2" and several 8 rd groups of 7/8", using its favorite handload.

Hehehehe.....Glad to know I'm not the only member of this club....Very first time I ever disassembled/cleaned/reassembled an AR I did this very thing. I thought I just totally trashed my brand new rifle. Glad to hear your dog survived the incident with only minimal hearing damage.

The firing pin keeps the cam pin from rotating when the BCG is assembled. If it's not in there, the cam pin is free to rotate in the carrier.

And don't
me again! :p
That's what I thought was being discussed, but hard for me to paint a picture in my head with just words.

...and you're still an AR dork:neener:

HavelockLEO;
OHHHH it is so easy to forget when you are distracted by - - - - oh damn, another excuse.

No excuse sir.

67 year old brain fade is NOT an excuse.

And even if it was, - - - what was it we were discussing?????

Roger :)

No worries, inattention at times gets the best of all of us.

I'm just glad it worked itself out and you got her back together

Yep, I did same thing about seven months ago with my AR10 and the BCG locked in the receiver, and I thought I was going to spend some money at the gunsmith. Someone here at THR told me to lightly tap on the receiver with a rubber hammer. It worked, but I still felt like a big dummy after all the worry. Glad you got it fixed. This forum is very helpful when you have a problem. Brain fade is happening more frequently for me at 63.
