Any creative uses for the animal fur/skin?

Many use the hair in fly tieing. (Fishing)

I tried tanning a hide once. Made a big mess. Got a friend who is good at it and he makes some incredibly warm bedspreads.

My two oldest daughters and my wife sew sew sew, I hunt, skin proper and dry the hides, we all work together to scrape and tan them.

Some one should definitely do a "build along" sort of thing with tanning hides. I'd LOVE to know how to do it but just can't figure it out.

I'd like to build a rough-hewn cedar and hog/ axis hide living room set... one of those "when we build a house" ideas.

... and fur side out, with a pair of bandoleers, I bet they make great He-Man underoos.

I married my best Hunting/Fishing/Gathering friend.

I home schooled most of my children and took them on hunting trips that lasted years.

We divide our work along traditional lines, Where its cold, theres a Man, where its warm, theres a Woman.
We utilize everything we can from local resources, from heating our house with wood, to eating fresh Natural foods, to making $ with Artwork and surplus gatherings.

I listend to my Elders and others, advise is free, and I work hard. We keep what we must and give what we can.

Draw string coin bags made from kangaroo scrotum used to be popular in Australia. Got to admit, haven't seen any on sale for a while though.

Not as exotic as some of the above, but have a nice quiver for my traditional longbow I made from a whole coyote pelt.

I have, when I was a kid, cured many squirrel hides. One thing I did with 'em is make my own arm guards for shooting my bow by sewing elastic on 'em. I wasn't much of a tailor, but that was pretty simple. I'd just scrape and cure the hides with salt. They lasted quite a while.

This young lady in Florida makes some really nice women's wrist bracelets from tanned capes. I had her make a dozen from some african hides (impala, blesbok, springbok, etc.) last year. She made them reversible, a different hide on each side. Really nice and I think about $15 each. she also does very nice pistol and gun cases from hides and capes.

There's a tannery around here that will trade you a set of nice buckskin gloves for your deer hide, so I try to get a new pair of gloves every year.
I keep the hair and/or feathers from some animals to tie fishing flies. I also use some small game hides to make rawhide heads for the old fashioned gourd banjos I build. The old timers say that the best banjo heads were made from house cat, but the neighbors kinda frown on that.
