This morning I went out nice and early to go blow off some steam with my Remington NMA as well as a couple other firearms that I love. I brought the steel framed one, got about three cylinders through with round balls and 30 grains of Goex. Oh boy I love that pistol, and ever since I put a nice cold blue on her and modified the sights to suit me, I've been in love. My friend went along with me and shot too, she loved that revolver! She even asked to shoot some hotter rounds so I bumped it up to 40 grains and a ball, she was like Annie Oakley! :what: I was getting outshot by a lady. She liked my shotgun too, oh man she can really shoot! :D

So on about the 6th cylinder I was loading a ball with the rammer, it sheared the pin and boogered up the hole that it goes through. They both snapped at once, is that uncommon?

So I seated that ball with a short starter from my range bag, fired the 4 shots I had loaded, and put it away for the rest of the trip.

My question is where's the cheapest place to get a Pietta Remmy loading lever and pivot screw? I really hope I don't have to shell out $100 to fix my gun, does anyone here have one that is used?

Thanks!
~Levi

P.S. kinda off topic but I figured I would share, I have been developing BP loads for my 16 gauge shotgun that are for extended ranges. I am using a three fingered wad made from an empty 20 gauge hull over 2.5 drams of Goex and a mini nitro card wad. I haven't detected any plastic deposits so far! More info when I continue testing.

Where is the usual banter about the NMA's mythical strength? You mean they are mortal after all? ;)

Hope you get it fixed soon Levi. You're a handy feller, I'm sure you'll manage.

Smith's or Colts break, and Rugers break too, guns were made by man and man is imperfect.
Now if God started going into the gun biz, and making 58's you'd have an indestructible revolver. 25 grains of Bullseye? No problem if you're wrist can take it! :D

I have been thinking about this a lot, there might be a soloution other than just buying a new loading lever. I may need to re-manufacture a screw to fit the hole once I get it out, but I could possibly make a new one.

I know they do Levi, I was just poking a little fun. ;)

I was wondering when you would start thinking about homebrew solutions. Post some pics if ya like.

Let us know how you made out with it.(I'm betting you can fix it with your own part/parts and work . I'm saying this because I've seen all yer videos. :D

Gentlemen, I have been pondering over this matter for quite a while now. Probably 8 cups of coffee and about 12 pipes of Capt. Black later I still haven't come up with a way to fix this in a way that would be durable enough for my standards. I thought about dovetailing something in but abandoned that idea due to there not being enough metal (I think) for a good strong dovetail. To make it worse I am not very good at dovetailing, of course I did put that front sight on my Remington. And yes, it is accurate. 20 grains and my 360 grain monster bullets will do this at 50 yards. Keep in mind I'm not the best pistoleer.

The sights are a lot like what I have on my Smith and Wesson M-10, but higher profile and easier to see. Just a square notch with a squared off post that is the front sight. I may make a thicker version of this sight though, I'm not getting the control over windage that I'd like.

Well... I'd be really really happy to have baseball sized groups. Cloverleaf groups would be very lovely as well, silver dollar sized would be delightful. And if I did as good with my windage as I did with my elevation I'd be a very happy man.

I made them by deepening the cavity on my Lee 200 Grain round nosed bullet mold. They are very deadly, and sail right on through cinder blocks without much of an issue at all.

They are a tad rough (probably since I still haven't gotten around to polishing the cavity) but are accurate and nasty. Here they are, hope you can see em' close enough to get an idea of what they are like.

I think some pics of your ladyfriend holding the other guns would help this topic. For... comparison! or something...

That trip I brought my camera, but forgot the SD card. :banghead:

Of course next time we do a little "blackpowder dating" I will take pictures. She's a great shooting buddy, although I'm seriously outclassed! That gal shoots my pistols, rifles, and shotgun better than I do! :D Humbling to say the least. :)

Yup. One of the "Most Favorite Sayings" on a couple of the classic musclecar forums I visit is "Pics or it didn't happen!" Must see this lass playing Annie Oakly with your pistolas and shotgun and such.

Don't feel bad about the girl's shooting prowess. My wife outshoots me with just about everything except full-house .44Mag rounds out of my 629, and anything out of a shotgun - she just doesn' like shotguns.
Those few times when we get a REAL day off together (neither one of is on-call) will find us on horseback or out shooting. She's telling me that, next time we can go shooting, she wants some time with my Remmies. Bet I lose my 5-1/2 incher before we go home. That's what happened with the sweet little Model 13 that I had.... now I get to look at it when she has it out, but otherwise, IT'S HERS!

The sad part is I knew exactly where I left the SD card for my camera sitting. :( That would have been great to make a nice shooting video and get some proper footage with that Armsport Remington. Chelsea loved shooting that one because the grip was smaller than the Pietta. Good gun for sure!

Tom, outstanding idea. I'll send Kirk a PM today and see if he's got one that he could sell.

Thanks, I'm considering selling some once I polish the mold. They do require you start them before getting them under the loading lever to finish the job, but it's worth it IMHO to be shooting 360 grains of lead and to have raw power like that!

Oh yeah, and 20 grains doesn't sound like a typical 20 grain charge. It's actually a lot deeper boom than with a ball or regular conical. Hotter charges make it sound a lot like Dirty Harry's .44! :D

do you think loading your monster homebrew bullets is what caused the breakage?

are you using a soft lead or wheel weights?

I actually only loaded one cylinder of monster bullets with the loading lever, the rest were with a loading stand. I was using soft lead to cast these too, as with all my BP revolver bullets. When I was loading a round ball it snapped, so I'm guessing I should melt down that batch and turn them into buckshot so I don't have to pay for two loading levers.
