Difference between MAK 90 and an AK-47??

None of the Mak-90s I've seen have a milled reciever or a muzzle nut. Plus I think the back of the reciever is slant cut on the Mak which would also be different. AK-47s were also only ever produced in full auto configurations, whereas you can buy semi-auto Mak 90s.

That having been said, the less technical answer is that the Mak-90 is a very well built Chinese copy of the Russian AKM assault rifle which can be found in semi-auto configuration and were mostly imported to the US as sporterized rifles using a thumbhole stock and no muzzle brake or bayonet lug.

There were also some MAK90s without the odd angle-cut receiver back.

MAK90s are a little different than Euro AKs. They use a double hook trigger, even though most stamped AKs use a single hook version. The receiver opening in the rear is smaller than others, so Euro stock kits need to be modified, not to mention the common angle-cut.

MAK90 finishes are thin blueing, rather than paint like others.

The MAK90 is a good shooter, however

Remember that the whole reason for it being called a MAK-90 -- a Modified AK 1990 -- is to comply with the "sporting purposes" clause.

So, they won't have a bayonet lug or a threaded barrel or a pistol grip in their as-imported configuration.

The thumbhole stock also is shaped in such a way that it makes them look like they have slant-cut receivers, but most of them are normal AK style cuts.

When the Mak-90 was first introduced, several LEO friends of mine bought them, and then re-worked the thumb-hole stocks to give them something that resembled a pistol grip.

I managed to keep my Mak-90 original, along with my NHM-91. Oh, and this Mak-90 has a barrel nut welded to the end of the barrel. It uses the slant-cut recoil-check.

I bought the rifle off Gunbroker, since it was slant-cut I then welded the lower rear of the rec'r. Then after a LOT of grinding (so a stock would fit in the rear), I welded a lower tang on. That took care of the rear.

The FSB was neutered so I nibbled out some scraps to shape and TIG welded them on. They still need a lil tweaking but they're close.

Dug around on the front face of the FSB and found the hole for the detent pin, they're usually hidden by the heat of sanding. Dug out the plug and put a pin/spring in. Wanted a "50's style" like the M22 so I now had a detent pin I threaded the muzzle and put a muzzle nut on.

Last but not least I swapped a Type 3 style selector on to it, gives it the look of the era.

It looks a lot different right now, I stripped the bluing off with several types of acid and am weathering it for a "BFPU look". I already have my version of a "captured FARC" AK so this will be my eastern Africa rifle, something you'd see the Mursi tribe with.

Want it to look sorta like this one in Darfur (Sudan)
Yes, it's stamped (not milled) but you get the idea.

When it's done, it's on to a southern Asia AKM. I already have a rainbow of "Paki tapes" to decorate it with. The rifle is a mid-60's Romanian that was already weathered/BFPU'd by a fellow member up in New York. Oddly enough, since we're talkin' MAK-90's, I just so happened to have traded a stamped MAK-90 for the Romanian. Some tape and throw some tassles around the muzzle for "mojo", some beat up mags and and I'm golden!

On topic you gotta love them chinese spikers (or at least a reasonable facsimile of one) Be prepared to shell some serious $ for one if you are serious, like at least $1200 plus.
