It was horrific. I love my BP guns and so I took them out on Sister's pontoon boat out on the flats in the Gulf out of Sopchoppie to show them my favorite scalloping area and a rouge wave took them all over board while we were in deep water. It was horrible! They should have been wearing their floation devices! I should have listened to the Game and Fish folks and the Coast Guard!

I have less than the serious folks and more than some dabblers. I "need" more.

I have a number of fine flint lock rifles and smooth bores. But look at this many shooters don't think the BP handguns are accurate. This is the now discontinued Rogers & Spencer Target, caliber .457. This was fired from sand bags at 25 yards with heavy loads of Triple Seven and 220 grs. conicals.

I only have two (soon to have a third), they are both the Real Deal Antigues, but both are in good enough shape to be shot, one is a Model 1842 Harpers Ferry Musket .69 Cal, the other is a Sharps Model 1863 Carbine converted to 45-70!

Trung Si,

Nice living room. Nice guns.

I have a copper helmet somewhat like yours that has a coat of thick red paint over it that ws picked up from the trash in front of the fire house just off the Munster Plaza in Ulm, Germany around 1975. I always wondered if they were purpose made ( I think so) or war material put to peaceful use.

Thanks for sharing.

kBob! My Mother in Law picked up that Hemet in France in the 60s, I believe It to be an Old French Fire Fighters Helmet!

Here's my Remington New Army revolver.I also have a home made BP shooter also.

Saw that BP pistol, you done good! :) The 1858 Remington is a nice handgun to have, I outfitted mine with a nice high profile set of sights. I blued it, and I also gave her action a good tuning. For those high profile sights I cut a piece of mild steel, shaped it into a front sight with files that I inherited from my grandad who died back in 09' of cancer, Lord rest his soul. This Remington is kind of a tribute to him, being that I used his files to put it together. He was a Marine, love his country, and taught me some things about life that I'll never forget.

I also engraved "Don't Tread on Me" on the top of the barrel, and engraved "His Truth is Marching on" on the backstrap. That's a line from the Battle Hymn of the Republic. I think my grandpappy would be proud. And like him, I want my defensive caliber to begin in at least 4. puffy.gif

Just in case you guys forgot what she looks like! :D

I know it ain't perfect and I bought the parts to build this, but it works perfectly and I'm happy with it. And if an 18 year old country boy with hand tools can build it, you probably can too if you go slow and take your time.

To answer the question the way it was posed: original DuPont in all four grades, goi in all four, elephant brand, curtiss and Harvey, Swiss, and one more I can't remember and I don't want to go down to the cabin to see.
Done being a smarty pants, I have 7 shotguns, all 12 ga, 7 rifles from 32 to 72 cal, and 6 handguns from 31 to 45 cal. In a few words, more than I have time to shoot.

Okay, you guys aren't going to believe what happened this morning. So I go out to the lake with all my BP guns to go frog giggin' and test which BP gun would work best for shooting bullfrogs. We were on a boat and the captain had a little too much rum. He crashed into a rock and then some lake pirates got the guns while we were in the water. Couldn't swim with all that iron so I made the mistake of leaving them on a boat. That's my story and I'm sticking' to it! :D

Embarrassingly...only 14. ...........................so far.
But then, as of late, i keep thinkin 'bout that ......" fear the man with only one gun" thingy.

Oh, does my cannon count ?

I have a few but I really only use my remmy in 36 cal. (shhh don't tell the others but she is my favorite.)

Busyhands sorry to hear you had a run in with a rock and some pirates. Hopefully they didn't get too much of your booty. :what::uhoh::what:

Sorry couldn't resist:neener:

Black Powder Rob, I shoulda' busted a cap in Blackbeard when I had the chance, oldschool.

I did get another gun today, but lost it. Up until that point my day was peachy. I woke up early, made $50 doing some hard work, went fishing, kissed a beautiful woman like they do in the movies, and got a gun. All of said events were outstanding and excellent.

Just when I thought the day couldn't get any better, Fienstein ran up and stole my gun. :banghead: Luckily I didn't look directly into her eyes, otherwise I'd be made of stone right now.

Most of you can guess what's in them casings behind the bullet and in front of the primer! :D None other than our good friend Goex!

Well, it was fun while it lasted besides the pirates and Fienstein. :(

I have more BP revolvers than I have smokeless revolvers. That's if I count my son Matt's short-barrel .44 "Fake Navy" and my wife's S&W Model 13.

If I don't count those two; I STILL have more BP revolvers than smokeless revolvers. And that's all Imagonna admit at this time.

As for answering the EXACT question posed in the title: Roughly 2-1/2 pounds of Pyrodex P still in the plastic jugs with some "saran wrap" taped over the tightly-screwed-down lids, about 40 Pyro "POP-fizzle" 30 grn pellets, and maybe 150 grns of "questionable" Pyro P in my powder flask - I found out for myself what happens if'n I don't empty the flask out during "rainy" (mostly just humid) season.

The local Yuma SASS competition is next month; and I'm told by a reliable source (my brother -aka- "Don Coyote") that it's a good place to find REAL Holy Black being sold. Consequently; I'm thinking that my powder cache will be growing somewhat; without having to pay the HAZMAT fee.

Yumakid, does Pyrodex absorb moisture more so than BP? This time of year it gets really cold at night, stuff hasn't started freezing at night which is quite odd for my part of NorCal. But I left a can of Pyrodex on my shelf for about three months, and I even forgot to screw the lid down tight so the lid was only PARTIALLY tightened.

To give you an idea of the kind of environment we are talking about here, the room I sleep in is not insulated. So there's a lot of humidity cause just by my breathing. I left a twist of tobaccy' on my shelf (uncovered too) and that twist is totally moist and flexible. Hillbilly humidity gauge! :D

Anyway, not to get all off topic here. But I went and shot some of that Pyrodex in my Remmy and in some cartridges ranging from .22's, .32's, and 16 gauges as well as that New Model Army. Didn't get any misfires at all, even though the place I was storing it was humid and the lid was partially off.

Just sayin'. :)

One. A Thompson Center Triumph rifle that I shoot a Hornady XTP 240 gr .429 sabot bullet from. It's topped with a Nikon 3x9x40 scope. It's a real sweet shooter.

I would like to try a 300 gr bullet some day though.:D

Not that many considering all the cartridge firearms. But, it's gaining. :D I really don't get the hots for many cartridge guns anymore aside from maybe rimfires.

Handguns-

NAA Supercompanion
ASM .31 Pocket Remmy brasser
Pietta ,44 cal .51 Navy brasser
Pietta 5.5" '58 Remmy
Ruger Old Army

Rifles-

CVA Plainsman
Cabela's Hawken Hunter Carbine
CVA Wolf inline

MCgunner, that's a pretty nice collection, cartridge guns don't really get me pumped either. Unless they are for cartridges that were originally blackpowder, loaded with blackpowder. Breaktops really get me excited just like a kid on Christmas. The .32 S&W is a fun little round too!

PS, I like your sig line! :)

Ol' Ben had a way with words. :D

Well, I don't use my cartridge hunting rifles much anymore since I got that CVA Wolf and plan to use my Hawken Hunter Carbine on something in the future. I didn't use BP this hunting season cause all my stuff for them is in storage. I'm hoping to close on my new home in the woods Wednesday. All I had to hunt with this year was my SKS (had 8 handloads that are 20 years old) and my lever action Rossi M92 in .357. I hunted mostly with the lever gun, then the one day I take the SKS out, I shoot a 9 point. Last year I shot a little 5 point with my newish CVA Wolf, first front stuffer kill I've made. I'd hunt with the Hawken more, but it's such a pain to unload, but once I'm moved, I can fire it on my own personal range at the house. :D

I do use my shotguns, love wing shooting, duck, doves and goose hunting. And, I have a carry permit and have carry choices that are modern. BUT, for fun, well, I just get more out of BP and .22s for some reason. I'm not really sure why, addictive I guess.
