Be honest... how many blackpowders you got?

Saw that BP pistol, you done good! The 1858 Remington is a nice handgun to have, I outfitted mine with a nice high profile set of sights. I blued it, and I also gave her action a good tuning. For those high profile sights I cut a piece of mild steel, shaped it into a front sight with files that I inherited from my grandad who died back in 09' of cancer, Lord rest his soul. This Remington is kind of a tribute to him, being that I used his files to put it together. He was a Marine, love his country, and taught me some things about life that I'll never forget.

I also engraved "Don't Tread on Me" on the top of the barrel, and engraved "His Truth is Marching on" on the backstrap. That's a line from the Battle Hymn of the Republic. I think my grandpappy would be proud. And like him, I want my defensive caliber to begin in at least 4.

I know it ain't perfect and I bought the parts to build this, but it works perfectly and I'm happy with it. And if an 18 year old country boy with hand tools can build it, you probably can too if you go slow and take your time.

Okay, you guys aren't going to believe what happened this morning. So I go out to the lake with all my BP guns to go frog giggin' and test which BP gun would work best for shooting bullfrogs. We were on a boat and the captain had a little too much rum. He crashed into a rock and then some lake pirates got the guns while we were in the water. Couldn't swim with all that iron so I made the mistake of leaving them on a boat. That's my story and I'm sticking' to it!

I did get another gun today, but lost it. Up until that point my day was peachy. I woke up early, made $50 doing some hard work, went fishing, kissed a beautiful woman like they do in the movies, and got a gun. All of said events were outstanding and excellent.

Just when I thought the day couldn't get any better, Fienstein ran up and stole my gun. :banghead: Luckily I didn't look directly into her eyes, otherwise I'd be made of stone right now.

Most of you can guess what's in them casings behind the bullet and in front of the primer! None other than our good friend Goex!

Well, it was fun while it lasted besides the pirates and Fienstein.

Yumakid, does Pyrodex absorb moisture more so than BP? This time of year it gets really cold at night, stuff hasn't started freezing at night which is quite odd for my part of NorCal. But I left a can of Pyrodex on my shelf for about three months, and I even forgot to screw the lid down tight so the lid was only PARTIALLY tightened.

To give you an idea of the kind of environment we are talking about here, the room I sleep in is not insulated. So there's a lot of humidity cause just by my breathing. I left a twist of tobaccy' on my shelf (uncovered too) and that twist is totally moist and flexible. Hillbilly humidity gauge!

Anyway, not to get all off topic here. But I went and shot some of that Pyrodex in my Remmy and in some cartridges ranging from .22's, .32's, and 16 gauges as well as that New Model Army. Didn't get any misfires at all, even though the place I was storing it was humid and the lid was partially off.

Just sayin'.

MCgunner, that's a pretty nice collection, cartridge guns don't really get me pumped either. Unless they are for cartridges that were originally blackpowder, loaded with blackpowder. Breaktops really get me excited just like a kid on Christmas. The .32 S&W is a fun little round too!
