Good.

If they don't want people with guns in their shop, they should exclude all people with guns
Until someone comes in with a gun, and they have to call more people with guns to handle the situation, of course

There is no reason to give police a special pass to carry in gun-free-zones.

The media loves sensationalism.

Police Chief William Clay is as stupid and childish as the manager of the Dennys. End of story.

well at least they dont discriminate....no guns means no guns...regardless of who you are.

however they had better hope they never get robbed....something tells me the police wont be in too much of a hurry to get there.

I'm seventeen years out of police work.... but I can just imagine the responses at each roll call when the local guys learned about this policy at their local Denny's. After more than a few profane remarks I imagine the consensus would be that they should get exactly what they asked for.... As a sergeant and then a lieutenant I was presiding over one shift or another's roll call for many years. No, they were nothing like what's usually portrayed in film or TV.... Mostly it was guys and gals getting the latest info and speaking up about one topic or other in very direct fashion.....

It might be helpful to remember that the folks who actually run one Denny's or other weren't exactly the sharpest knives I've ever met (and a few were heavy guys in their past histories... but that's another tale entirely.).

The criminals will find out soon enough it is a gun free zone, and we already know what happens in gun free zones.

I just love it when a business or a people decide the best way to address a problem is to become over sensitive. What a weak response. This is part of the problem with our country. What should happen is the restaurant welcome the police to hang out and the manager get his or her carry permit. But no instead act offended and stick your head in the ground. Also there is only one Denny's left here in my area. So maybe not full of good decisions from them anyways.

Many restaurant managers are either teenagers or young "adults" that have a poor high school educations and no management skills training that work for minimium wage. I suspect that this "manager" has a grudge against LEO's and not only abuses Denny's customers but his/her employees as well.

I noted this happened in IL, that state is rigidly anti-gun anyway. I wonder if the female detective had her badge near the gun or wore it around her neck as the other plain clothed detectives were? I'm required to cover my weapon when dressed in plain clothes while on or off duty. I'm guessing her badge wasn't visible.

I hope this hysteria makes everyone realize just how far gone everyone has become.

If anyone is paying attention, by the way, the 2nd amendment is dying in Illinois. Bills passed comittee yesterday and might go up for a vote today.

And nobody around here cares at all.

I once worked for a law enforcement agency that used outside contracting support. Evidently, some moron lodged a complaint that the holstered sidearms of the agents made him/her nervous. A memo subsequently came out that at that facility, firearms had to be locked away in safes during the time agents were there.

The reasonable response would SEEM to have been to tell the contractor to provide support personnel to a law enforcement agency that weren't afraid of guns.

Go figger...

Don't group the entire state together. There are those of us in Illinois who enjoy our rights, and have been fighting for them for some time. Great strides have been made, until this Newtown insanity started - and I'm now watching my rights fade away while hardly anyone is paying attention.

"well at least they dont discriminate....no guns means no guns..."

The officers looked for the sign the manager said was on the front door. No sign.

Speaking of discrimination, I wonder if any or all of the officers were black. Denny's never did like black folks.

Denny's Restaurants to Pay $54 Million in Race Bias Suits -

Why should cops get special treatment? Denny's apparently doesn't want my business.

Saw this on the news this morning. Denny's has tried to apologize but the cops aren't going there unless they get a 911 call.

Private citizens open carry in the Denny's out here- no drama.

I was just back in IL for the holidays, can't even pick up a gun to look at without a FOID card, much less buy one or ammo.:banghead:

There is a reason why the Denny's in my town went out of
Business. Terribly run and always dirty.

it's one thing to discuss the seemingly inevitable consequence of poor decisions. it's entirely another to wish for another tragedy.
