Is the Colorado altitude making these Colorado lawmakers stupid?

Democratic Colorado state Rep. Joe Salazar apologized Monday for suggesting some women are so unjustifiably afraid of being raped that they are liable to start shooting wildly.

Salazar, arguing in favor of disarming college students, said Friday on the Colorado House floor that women fearing rape may suddenly and haphazardly ”pop a round at somebody.”

“It’s why we have call boxes; it’s why we have safe zones; it’s why we have the whistles — because you just don’t know who you’re gonna be shooting at. And you don’t know if you feel like you’re gonna be raped, or if you feel like someone’s been following you around or if you feel like you’re in trouble when you may actually not be, that you pop out that gun and you pop … pop a round at somebody,” Salazar said.

What's a safe zone? (Honest question)

Is that like an area where everyone becomes completely impotent and loses all sex drive?

In my opinion, a 'safe zone' is a circular area with a diameter of about 25 yards surrounding a woman with a compact handgun and a determination not to be a victim.

The best part is that this type of 'safe zone' is completely portable.

I just read this story over at MSN (I know, I know). The list of 10 suggestions to avoid rape is pathetic, sad, and laughable all at the same time.

People REALLY think this way??? How can you even fight against such colossal stupidity?!

I'm making it my personal mission to get the word out on this story. This fool needs to lose his office in the next election.

If you're planning to pass this article around, I'd save a copy of it now because I bet it'll get taken down and buried before too much longer, now that armed-defense advocates are running with it.

Prepare to feel despair and loathing as you read the list of 10 ways the ruling class thinks a woman should defend herself against a rapist, rather than using a gun!

I'm sorry to hear that jotjackson. You have my prayers.

I watched him in the committee hearings over mag bans. His arrogance and stupidity is beyond words.

By the way, a woman I know was giving me a hard time just the other day about being a gun owner. I ought to print the list of 10 suggestions and give it to her and say "if any guy tries to rape you, here are your options since you hate guns"

(When I say she hates guns, I mean she LITERALLY hates guns. Beyond all reason)

They could always get those clickers I saw in the pet shop today for training dogs, what is wrong with these morons. The VP today suggested a 12 gauge side by side is all you would ever need, and he has instructed his wife to unload both barrels if she feels threatened, and he said she should go outside to do it, isn't that almost reckless. How would she know if she was being threatned if she heard a noise outside?

Wait until it, unfortunately, happens to someone he cares about. His tune will change.

I bet half a century ago, these fools would've been laughed out of the room for saying such things.

Today they have a loyal following!!

Heh. This is really about the only "women who are afraid of rape can't be trusted with.." statement that guy could have made and not provoke angrily sanctimonious 24/7 news coverage. Especially since all they have now is that stupid "blade runner" case

"Women who are afraid of rape can't be trusted with cars"

On a related note, having read the anti rape list, I did read that a woman picking her nose is supposed to prevent rape. No idea if its true or not.

Easy, you got that right. I work in public-safety, imagine the thoughts that go through my head everyday when I come in contact with one of these pricks! Sorry guys, very sensitive issue for me.

Easy, give 'em a "Whistle" and then toss them in the worst prison you can find in your State.

Smart money....says they will have a new outlook on "rape" (and how best to defend against it) when they come back out.

Hint: It ain't a whistle. ;)

I have no objection if your acquaintance chooses not to carry a gun due to her neurosis. Only she bears the responsibility for that decision. When we start talking about prohibiting carry by law in magical-thinking-zones (a.k.a. "safe zones"), that's a different issue. Sort of like when a woman chooses not to get an abortion versus her being prohibited by law from getting one.

And it just can't be any sort or rape you know.

It has to a legitimate rape.

I wonder why these people hate women so much?

Isnt it interesting that a Dem makes an assinine statement about woman and rape and the silence from women's organizations and msm is deafening,,, compare to the mis statements made by the rep running last election cycle, forget his name, but said women have a biological defense mechanism that prevents them from being impregnated by rape. I believe he was running for US Senate.

The Colorado NRA affiliate needs to buy a few thousand cheap pink plastic whistles and start handing them out to young women on college campuses and on the streets along with a pamphlet. It doesn't even need to be explicitly pro-gun... just quote him, and start a fury that will get him voted out.

"Excuse me, ma'am ... do you have a "safety whistle"?"

Hah, yes, I didn't mention that, but yeah. She hates guns so she doesn't think I should have any either!

FTA
“It’s why we have call boxes; it’s why we have safe zones; it’s why we have the whistles

The most sickening thing I've ever heard. Would be such a shame if he accidentally hung himself.
