I never EVER thought it would happen to me BUT
Why would anybody carry a full size pistol that only holds 8 rounds?
Why would anybody not choose the lighter higher capacity weapons for half the price?
Why would anybody pay THAT much?!!!!!
I decided every gun owner should own a Colt 1911 because of its history so i traded for one and then i really messed up.... I shot that gun
Now this
Springfield operator night sights od green frame
Tell me what i have done
It was a great price and i cant get enough 1911's!!!!
How do i stop the madness?!!

Perhaps I would not be the best person to ask. I'm thinking such folks either have more money and/or more debt than me and/or like to reload.

There are less expensive guns and ammo to be had. For myself, just because I take a Ferrari around the track, doesn't put a priority on having one in my garage .

BTW, to add to your list of questions: What justifies the price of 1911s? Is it the free market or is the cost to produce them really up there?

I am so sorry to hear your sadness over this purchase.
Is there anything I can do? I know! I can offer you say,
$300 and you won't have any more to worry about.;)

I've carried a full size 1911 every day for 12 years. (it helps that I live in a state the requires no permits to carry, open or concealed, so I'm not concerned with needing to keep it hidden.)

The 1911 isn't for everyone, especially in terms of carrying it for self defense. In my opinion, its the perfect fighting weapon. I've had the good privilege to train under Jeff Cooper, Clint Smith, Tiger McKee, etc, and they've all further impressed upon me that it is the ultimate fighting weapon.

Clint says, "its not supposed to be comfortable, its supposed to be comforting." To me, nine rounds of .45 in the weapon is more comforting than 15 rounds of 9mm. We could debate statistics of terminal stopping power of either round, or the number of shots required in real life self defense situations, but I choose the .45 regardless of how many rounds I have available.

As for the cost, yes, they're worth it (if you like them.) I don't make enough money to have a whole collection of them, but of the couple I've owned, they've all been worth every penny.

To each their own, but if you give in to desire, and choose the right one, you won't be disappointed.

Send two then call me in the morning, it will clear right up?

IMHO it is mostly about flavor. I have several plain Jane, run of the mill striker fired pistols. I have never thought twice a about them, they are just tools. I carry them and they get bet up but it's ok with me.
Now the 1911's are carried sometimes but I'm very careful about how I carry them. They are a work of art and are like fine wine. You can get the same result from malt liquor but it just is not the same.
I look at the Tupperware pistols and have a hard time spending $500. I see a nice 1911 for a $1000 and think what a deal.
Hey maybe it's just me. :p

Friends don't let friends shoot striker fired teflon.
AND yes you should become a reloader like the rest of us addicts
I think a certain amount of striker fired teflon is good for you.

Kiln, I agree. Polymer-framed, double-stack striker-fired pistols are not museum pieces, nor are they very impressive to look at, but they work.

I admire the feel and aesthetics of my all-metal pistols, but if the poo impacts on the ventilation enhancer, I'm holstering my G22 (and a Browning pump gun).

I just think variety is great. I'm an XD/XDM guy by the way, I never could like my Glock.

What you really need to do next is build one of your own. Think about it... all yours, built from parts chosen by you and made with your own hands. Your own. Your precious.

You don't need to spend a ton of $$$ to get a servicable 1911. The Filipinos are making some good ones as are Ruger & Remington in the $600-ish neighborhood.

My guess would be you pay a lot for the rollmark on some of the higher end models.

Good bug to have as long as it doesn't become terminal, ie u go out and start buying ultra high ends you can't really afford (if u can then more power to ya). I wasn't interested either till I shot one, now it's G21 for more rounds during the winter with a cover garment and Kimber pro carry II for summer. Nothing against Tupperware but a good 1911 is hard to beat other than capacity wise.

I didn't own a 1911 for many years as I was a revolver guy. Then 20 years ago, I bought one, then another. Now, I have five including a WWII Remington Rand. The only one I carry though is a Kimber CDP Compact and that's not very often. I like the round but I carry smaller guns almost always if I'm carrying concealed.
