So I know a lot of guys like to bolt on tactical widgets, gewgaws and whatsits to their shotguns. Nothing wrong with that I guess, as long as you know how to run the weapon. But I wanted to go a different route with mine. I've always liked old school stuff, so when I got my Mossberg 590A1 many years ago, I always knew how I wanted to fit it out: like an old fashioned trench gun:

This way I get the reliability of the modern internals and ghost ring sights, with the traditional looks of the old police and military shotguns. I'm still figuring a way to mount a light, but once I figure that out, I'll be a happy man.

I'd add some BLO to the wood and get a butt plate or recoil pad and call it good.

Some wood finish, a recoil pad and a light and that'll be a very nice rig indeed.

Dunno that I wouldn't be tempted to replace the swivel cap with the bayonet-adapted end cap.

Which would not be as impressive as having a mount for an Enfield bayonet, which was pretty standard for US trench guns.

very nice, to be honest...I like the faded wood and dull finish as is
cant afford the real thing, so I bought a norinco copy:)

I love the old school wood stock and forend in contrast with the heat shield. Those ghost sights complete the feel! Very well executed.

Agree, like it a lot! That is the way my shotguns are set up (less heat shield). I have a couple of Remington 870P's with wood stocks and no attached do-dads.

My one plastic stock shotgun is a Remington 870 Express tactical with ghost ring sights and I ditched the stupid breacher choke with a flush fit IC choke.

Unfortunately with the heatshield installed you probably won't be able to install a light. I have an 18.5" 590A1 and I bought a CDM Gear MTR rail that have a Streamlight TLR-1 light installed on the rail.

I do like the wood furniture.

Nice shotgun. I love the wooden stock. I remember years ago Surefire had a fore end with the light biult in. I wonder if a wood worker could duplicate the fore end and attach the switch and flashlight to the wooden fore end? It might be expensive but it would be unique and look right on your gun.

Love it! Just love it. I always enjoy very traditional wood furniture on a pump. Looks classy. A little bit of finish might be a good touch, but nothing too fancy or glossy.

The tactical doo-dads are fine for people who are into 'em, but I'm not convinced they add a lot in objective utility to a pump-action like this.

Looks nice. Light wise get a barrel band used for extended magazine stabilazation, top pair of bandings go on barrel right behind sights, bottom set holds the light.

Awesome can I ask as to how and what mods you did ?

Sure, it is the 18.5" barrel Mossberg 590a1 with Aimpro Tactical Heat shield and wooden furniture I picked up from Havlin Stocks. A couple things about that: first of all these corncob style wooden forestocks seem to be getting rarer and rarer because it took me a long time to track down this stock set. Secondly, the new Mossbergs come with a plastic forestock that's permanently molded around the silde tube assembly, meaning you can't just swap out the plastic for wood. You have to also buy a seperate slide tube assembly plus retaining nut to install the wood parts.

Thanks, I'll look into it. I might just mount a light with electrical tape the way I've seen Clint Smith do it. As a bonus, that also seems like a very 'military' way of fixing a problem.

That shotgun will solve about 99% of the social problems you will ever experience.

Also, thank you for not trying to turn your shotgun into an AR by hanging a bunch of useless junk on it.

Just my .02,
LeonCarr

How badly did the barrel get scratched pushing the handguard front down over the barrel? I have the guard on my short 590-A1 but it's on the bead sight barrel and even that little front sight has to be removed to be very careful not to scratch -- the thing is very hard to open wide enough.

There was some minor scratching where the front bracket went over the barrel, but that can be avoided if you apply a layer of heavy tape before mounting the shield.
