Suggestions for a lefty (plus one more question)

I'm mainly looking for a list of ambidextrous handguns. I know lots of guns that have an ambi mag release, but not too many with an ambi slide release. (Or even just a movable slide release :D) I've picked up plenty of guns, and have no objections to "slingshotting" the slide, but it'd be nice to feel normal for a change. :p

I've done a fair bit of research on it, but my next question is a little odd. I am a fan of striker-fired, and I'm a fan on double action/single action. For the life of me, the only two guns I can find that are both da/sa AND striker fired are the P99 and SW99. Maybe I'm just looking in all the wrong places, but I thought it'd be better to ask a community much more knowledgeable than I am. Who can point me to a striker-fired, da/sa handgun? Thanks in advance guys.
 
Striker fired? none I know of.
if you want a laundry list of ambi pistols though, you want HK.


(although rumor has it HK might introduce a striker-fired P30 variant soon. I don't hold much on to rumors though.)
 
I'm a lefty and carry either a Beretta Nano or a Ruger LCP since neither have safeties. Both are DAO though. The Nano is striker fired.
 
You should look into the FN FNX or the FNS. These both have ambi safety, slide release, and mag release. You have the high capacity ability in 9, 40, and 45 caliber choices too. The FNS is a striker fire pistol and the FNX has a hammer for DA/SA operation. They work for me because my wife is a lefty too.
 
Hm. Seems like there really aren't many firearms out there like the P99. Now I must ask. Is there something wrong with the striker fired da/sa model?

No not really, but I would guess that you don't see many striker fired DA/SA handguns because you might want to be able to see the hammer (to see if it's cocked) and manipulate the hammer (to manually cock or decock). Which is why DA/SA handguns generally have exposed and serrated or checkered hammers while DAO versions of the same guns often have smaller bobbed hammers that cannot be manipulated.
 
I am a lefty. My only qualifier on a carry gun is that if it has a safety, it needs to be accessible to my left thumb. Magazine releases and slide releases don't concern me.

CZ 85 has an ambi slide release and safety. I think you can move the mag release over.

The Beretta 92 has an ambi safety and the mag release is movable.
 
Doesn't fit your criteria exactly, but I too am a big fan of the FNS series. I prefer to shoot left handed even though I can shoot with both, and my FNS-40 has been a dream. That said, half the time I use it like I use all my other right handed guns (hitting the mag release with my trigger finger and sling shotting the slide). However, it's nice to have a gun built for my natural southpawness:evil:
 
Oh wow. I'm embarassed to say that I didn't look closely enough at the trigger. (PPQ has the glock style trigger) I know the ambi slide release P99 exists, but I've never seen one for sale online, much less in person.

At this moment I can't recall other pistols to add to the lists.

I know the ambi slide release P99 exists, but I've never seen one for sale online, much less in person.

I'm 99% sure it's an european market-only version, which is a real shame: it could be a best seller in the USA. I own one (mine is what Walther calls the PS, AM, LM version) and I love it. My father has the P30 and I love it also. For me between the two is a tie match.

Bersa Thunder Pro 9. Either the High capacity (17 rnd) or Ultra Compact models. I believe they also come in .45 caliber. Fully ambi.

Yes, the Bersa line does include a compact 45 ACP with ambi slide release, ambi safety/decocker, and reversible mag release button.

I have all three and like them. They've been reliable, they fit my hand well, and I like the layout of the controls. Bersa also sells a 40 S&W in a frame size similar to the full sized (17 round) 9mm.

One note: The 9mm Ultra Compact is not a particularly small pistol. Think of it as a compact version of the Ultra pistol not an ultra compact version of a full sized pistol. I think something may have gotten misplaced in the Spanish to English word choices (Bersas are from Argentina). It's a great pistol but you won't mistake it for an LC-9!

5-shots: P2000SK. although I could see you "lumping" it with the "full size" P2000 in your list.
 
not sure if it's what you're wanting, but my #1 son is a lefty and he bought a Ruger SR9c in 9mm. That thing is a tackdriver and ambi controls of course. it comes with 2 mags; one a flush compact 10rd, and an extended 17rd(i think).

...anyway its a real nice, smallish, reliable gun that is reasonably priced.

Its been mentioned once but the HK P7 is completely ambidextrous and completely safe till you grip it. No thumb safety (I really don't see the need for one on this gun) and not DA/SA but its worth a look if you've got the scratch.
