Best carry knife for 100$ - 150$

Hello,

I am in the market for a new knife for everyday carry.
What kind of blade do you carry?

I like very much SOG Vulcan series, what are some nice alternatives in this price range?

Totally depends on your style. The Vulcan is a real decent blade. If it speaks to you maybe you try it.

Other options: Spyderco Manix 2 or Benchmade Griptilian
 
My everyday carry knife is a Benchmade Adamas Axis. But that is probably outside your price range. Perhaps you could narrow down some of your preferences?
 
Cut your price a little, the Kershaw Blur (Ken Onion) is a great knife. Look it up and the reviews, hard to beat for the price. My wife liked mine so much she took it and I had to buy another.

Everyone at work that's handled it has bought one, I would buy two for what you're planning on spending for one. Take a look, you might like it and that version is made in the USA.
 
Spyderco Manix 2, Benchmade Griptillian, or a whole bunch of Kershaws can be had for <$100. If you want to spend just a tiny bit more I would heartily recommend the Spyderco Paramiliary 2. No other knife has just the perfect combination of size, features and ergonomics for me.

I spend a whole bunch of years buying knives, but once the Para 2 came around I pretty much ended my search for the perfect EDC.
 
There are so many options... blade shapes... blade length... plain edge/serrated/combo... hollow ground/FFG... overall weight... handle materials... spyderhole/thumbstud/flipper/assisted -- it's like asking "what kind of car should I drive?"

Hard to go wrong with a Manix2. The higher end SOG folders are good too (the Visionary is a good knife with a terrible clip), though they tend to be pricy for what you get. Benchmade doesn't make anything bad it seems but are also pricy.
 
For folders, get you a Gerber or Kershaw (I own both- they are quality for what you pay for).
They may not be as high end as some of these others but for EDC you can buy 5 of these for one of some others named.
For fixed blades (and likely heavier use) I swear by Kabar knives. I own a few and love them. They have many different styles. They are all mostly within your price range as well.

it is outside your price range by $50. but it is well worth spending the extra $50 for this knife. the blade shape is simple and strong. most importantly, this is a San Mai blade from Cold Steel. that means it is a laminated blade, with a hard steel core, and a softer steel "outer" on each side. Laminated blades are really outstanding, for the price of $200 this one is a steal.

Last SOG I had was a Mini Tomcat that had the rubber handles disintegrate from carry, so I'm no help on the original question because I avoid the brand out of general mulishness.
 
I'm also partial to the Griptilian, but there are lots of good knives that have been mentioned.

I've been happy with my SOG knives, all told, but I've always been afraid to give them the kind of abuse I do my other knives. Like BLB68 said, they don't feel as robust as many of my other knives. I won't go as far as to say they won't hold up, though. I've just been afraid to try it on a $50-fish knife. I've never owned one of theor higher-end knives, though at first glance they seem a little tougher.
 
Just to be fair, I should add that I had that knife in the late 80s-early 90s, so it may not be a representative of current production stuff.
 
I recently purchased two Helle knives. handmade in Norway - a Dokka (folder) and an Eggen, a fixed blade. Beautiful, super sharp, well made knives.

Man, I wish I could find the edc manix or the orange handle somewhere. I love my lightweight, but I would love one of those with the better steel also.
 
My EDC rotation consists of knives (all folders) that I can afford to lose or break and not cry about. Depending on your preferences and requirements, some of these may not apply, but I have carried each of the following at one time or another, either for extended use or just for a "trial run" immediately after purchase.

Kershaw: Scamp, Vapor III, RJI, One Ton, Groove, Lahar
Gerber: Gator, Armor
SOG: Salute, Vulcan Mini, Trident Mini
Cold Steel: Recon 1 (tanto)
Boker: Gemini Badger
CRKT: Drifter, Ripple
Leatherman: Crater

Of the above knives, the Vapor III is my usual workplace EDC (along with a Leatherman Wingman) and the RJI is my "out and about" defensive knife. I originally bought the One Ton for more of a hard-use folder, but don't feel that it is quite what I was hoping for, although I do still carry it frequently. None of them has been unsuitable or otherwise below my expectations in terms of quality. As you might guess, I've found that I prefer Kershaw.
