    .338 Federal and Hornady FTX?

I had an idea, and contacted Lyman* and asked if they might have any information worked up for the next edition of their manual. They responded "We do have data in our 49th Edition Reloading book, but not for that exact bullet. We used a Speer 200 grain jacketed soft point. You can use this...

    reload swiss 7.5 x 55

If you want to try plated, X-Treme makes a 150-grain plated for .308 that should work nicely

    reload swiss 7.5 x 55

First cast bullet I tried was the RCBS 150-grain flatnose gas-check they have for .30-30, over 16.0 of 2400; fed with no problems, and shot nicely. Also tried the Lee 155-grain spitzer, worked nicely. I'm usually only able to shoot out to 100 yards, so for a general practice bullet both of...

    .338 Federal and Hornady FTX?

I'd wondered about that. The warning I'd heard is "Due to it seating deeper you can't use the same data as standard spitzers or boattails." Could find a few people saying "I used it with 'X' powder with success!", but zero actual information as to charges. So at this point looks like...

    reload swiss 7.5 x 55

I've had no problem. Also used cast bullets sized .309 with good results.

    .338 Federal and Hornady FTX?

Anyone seen any information on loading .338 Federal with the Hornady 200-grain FTX bullets? I've looked all over. I contacted Hornady("We don't know, check with Hodgdon"), contacted Hodgdon("We don't have any information on that combination"), and checked every reloading forum I could find...

    X-TREME Bullets

I've been using their 9mm, .45, .38 and .380 bullets for years; never a problem. Right now working up a load for their 123-grain 7.62 bullets in a 7.62x39. I've never had a problem with them. The one thing to remember is you have to flare the case mouth enough for the base to clear, same as...

M1 Carbine - Soft Points Wont feed

I'd try a new spring first; the lead is soft enough might be binding and not have quite enough oomph to push it through. Same magazines as the ball that feeds? I've heard of a couple of cases where someone had to tweak the feed lips just a touch to get one to feed other than ball.

A question ref cleaning polymer-frame pistols

If one gets really fouled internally, what's the best way to clean it? Flush it out with something, just brush thoroughly? Not very familiar with them, so thought I'd ask opinions.

    Springfield/Stevens Model 56

Anyone know of a place that would have detail-strip instructions on this rifle? Friend has acquired one, and cannot find much of anything on it other than 'made 1930's & 40's'.

What happens when you screw up enormously at BATFE?

You get this as punishment: "The ATF leader who oversaw a botched undercover operation in Milwaukee will now be in charge of the agency's embattled Phoenix office, where agents allowed more than 2,000 guns to walk into the hands of suspected criminals through the infamous "Operation Fast and...

Under the heading of "Only Professionals can be trusted with firearms,

The U.S. Park Police has lost track of thousands of handguns, rifles and machine guns in what a government watchdog agency concluded is the latest example of mismanagement on a police force trusted to protect millions of visitors to the city’s iconic monuments. There is no indication that...

Barrel cleaning after firing corrosive ammo

Ballistol. The stuff was made to be mixed with water to clean corrosive primer residue, and it works. At the range(if possible), when done shooting run a couple of patches damp with the mix through the bore, then a dry, then an oily one. Then a standard cleaning when I get home, and I've...

Sen. Coburn is selling us out on background checks

Just spoke to his office, and was told 'yes, the Senator is in favor of universal background checks.' She very quickly added that he's 'not in favor of registration', but that's cold comfort. One of the big problems with ubc has always been it being used as a backdoor into registration...

I just spoke to Sen. Coburn's office, and he's selling us out

He's going along with the universal background check. I don't know if it'll do any good, but if you're from OK, call his office and register your displeasure with this.

Berrys plated lead for personal defense?

Couple of years ago, while testing some other stuff, I tried a X-treme plated .45acp 200-grain HP in some water jugs, velocity ~800fps. It completely penetrated five one-gallon jugs and left a dent in the 2x4 at the back of the rack. Not only did it not expand, if it weren't for the rifling...

    Sometimes a company listens

Step at a time. They were never dismissive, or nasty; they actually listened to what we had to say, and considered it, and did change their policy; these are Good Things.

    Sometimes a company listens

Mexican restaurants in Oklahoma City named Chileno's, right after the Oklahoma open-carry law went into effect, posted 'no carry' signs. So I wrote to them, noting that they'd had lots of CCW customers over time with no problems, that if they preferred 'no open carry' they could post that...

    Remember the Kellerman study?

The "A gun is far more likely to be used against you" mess the CDC paid a lot of our money for? He's back. "If only we researchers had more money to do more studies, and doctors had more authority to poke into what people own", etc.j

    Spotting scope under $200?

I'll take a look, thanks! Have a Winchester marked one that works great out to 150 or so; beyond that, unless the hole is in a light area of the target you can't pick it out.
