    MO whitetail hunt

After taking a 15 pointer a couple years back, I followed him up with this nice 9 pointer on opening weekend this year. He came up behind three of us, downwind of all of us, right across an open pasture. Took him with my .243 sporter built on a mid-30's mauser action topped with a weaver k10...

Most bizarre thing that's happened while hunting

A friend and his daughter were sitting in the woods during whitetail season a few years ago and watched a turkey coming in to roost. It went to land quite a ways up in a tree- already had it's 'landing gear' out and wings folded, and missed the limb it was aiming for! They witnessed a turkey...

Venison roast recipe for crock pot?

From my great great grandmother: To soak the gamey out of wild meat- Place the meat in a bowl, cover with water, sprinkle with salt, baking soda, and give it a glug of vinegar. Soak overnight, rinse well the next day and cook 'er up. I can personally vouch that this works!

Vintage optics for a vintage rifle

I love the old weaver steel tubes! Have 2 k4's a k3 and a 3-9 variable in the parts drawer, and would swap one of my kids for a good k6! The k10 works well on my 243, too!

    Monster MO whitetail!

Had to post this here. A friend of a friend picked this up recently- apparently died of bluetongue this fall. Would have loved to pulled the trigger on this one!!!

    MO 15 pointer whitetail update

Couldn't resurrect the old post, so here's a new one. Here's my 15 pointer taken in a great hunt last year. My wife had him mounted for me, and he's taken a place of honor in the living room. One of our dogs is scared of him- HA! Looking forward to season this year, but I don't know if I can...

How is everybody's white-tailed deer season going?

Saw more deer this year than in the last 6 seasons, and shot my 15 pointer sunday of opening weekend!

    Sinister Model 1860 Snubby

here's a pic of a snub spotted online- the grips are interesting, and that barrel is tiny! Think you can make grips like that?

    MO whitetail 15 pointer!

Been hunting for years, but only got does. This year all that changed! Non-typical 15 point taken with my scroungy wz29 polish mauser w/k4 weaver. The wind was with me, took the shot within 20 yards, and he ran maybe 10 yards then dropped. I was shaking like a leaf!

    True Grit problem

Personally, I think the movie sucked. Bridges overacted to the point of sounding like Marge Simpson's sister. Damon was so plastic that he was pathetic. As far as the rest- please.. don't make me relive it. What's next? A remake of Dirty Harry with Ice-t as Harry Callahan? Is nothing...

    Revolutionary War Rifle

Excellent post, Maj Dad- very interesting, especially regarding your ancestor. My ancestor, Col. Gideon Lewis Jr. , was in the NC Militia, as well, although he was in at the end of the War of 1812. His father Gideon Sr. fought in the Revolution, though.

My sharpshooter Uberti Hawken project is done!

As soon as I can get some range time in, I'll post the results. Right now I'm in the middle of rebuilding our 6pdr. in preparation for a reenactment on Labor Day weekend. The scope was found on Ebay- apparently one of several ordered by a gunsmith down south that was planning on building some...

My sharpshooter Uberti Hawken project is done!

I just did a bit of research on Captain Jack Hinson, and I take the comparison as very high praise, 4v50Gary- now to find a gunboat!

My sharpshooter Uberti Hawken project is done!

I chose the Uberti rifle for the project, as it has a longer than standard pull length, and fits my long arms comfortably, as well as their reputation for being very accurate (the rifle- not my arms-HAHA). The barrel, as well as the scope are 32 inch. I was impressed as to how it all came...
