In general, what's the longevity of pistol brass?

In my experience… With low pressure ammunition, 38 Special target, 45 ACP, 44 Special, 380 ACP, etc, cases last near forever. Magnum ammunition loaded to magnum levels, case life is shorter. How much, it depends. When I was using 357 Magnum in IHMSA handgun silhouette, I’d a lose few cases at...

    16ga ???

I learned to shoot shotguns with my Dad's 28 ga side by side gun. I did well with it. Early on, the range officer allowed me to set up behind the trap house on the trap field to reduce the range needed for each ****,. At the time, early 1960s, 28 gauge was not a popular hunting round but...

I shot my 624 and my first had loads of 38 special

Looks good for the Model 624. I'm fond of my S&W Model 624's. Enjoy.

Let’s see an odd item that you use in your reloading process.

Here is a block I built for using the case holders for a Wilson trimmer/Sinclair trimmer stand. The right side is for seating the case in the case holder, the left side if for removing the case from the case holder. I use a pin that fits in the case mouth and knocks on the base iof the case to...

    Display your .38S&W & .32S&W Revolvers

Yup. But competitively priced with a K-32 K-frame. Fit and finish is exquisite. Unfortunately, I think Beretta is not importing them at present.

Good use for CFE 223 Powder

I use CFE223 in my 204 Ruger ammunition with 39-40 grain bullets. Good prairie dog medicine. I found my 204 Ruger AR-15’s a bit over gassed. My 204 Ruger AR’s have fixed gassed blocks so I built heavier buffers for my rifles that take care of the over gassing. I have a 26” and a 24” heavy...

    Nickel plated brass question

True. For a long time I resized 38 Special nickel plated cases just as brass cases without any issues. Generally, the loads were target, wadcutter ammunition. Lots of low pressure stuff. One of these days, I'll turn the rim off a number of 38 Special cases making a 38 AMU case and see how they...

    Nickel plated brass question

Nickel plated brass was introduced to the public more than a century ago as a means to prevent corrosion of the cases when carried in leather belt loops. There is enough tanning chemicals left in the leather that would corrode brass over time. At least with rimmed handgun cases, the full power...

Original 686 or original King Cobra

I did not say I could not work the Colt cylinder latch, but I have shot S&W revolvers so much that in a hurry, I push on the cylinder latch. I have and enjoy shooting my Pythons and GP100's. I just won’t use them where super fast reloads are necessary. Not that I could not retrain myself…

    Nickel plated brass question

I’ve found nickel plated handgun cases have a bit shorter life than brass cases. It is not enough shorter to worry about. I’ve started lubing all my cases even when using a carbide die. Things go much smoother and I clean/polish the cases after sizing anyway so no loss in time for my process...

Original 686 or original King Cobra

    686. The cylinder latch in the Colt operates the wrong way. 😊

    44 special

Yes, flake powders are difficult to meter but in the grand scheme of things, it really does not matter--with flake powders.. Metering with flake powders such as 700-X or unique will result in higher than "normal" powder variances but it seems to matter with the" end result".

    44 special

I use 700-X in most of my 44 Special loads. Unique, Accurate #5, W231 and a few others of similar performance would work well. Also, this ^^^

    Loads for S&W Model 25 45 Colt

For my 25-5's, I stick to standard 45 Colt pressures. No hot rodding for me. I pressed my first 25-5 into IHMSA Silhouette competition once when I cracked the forcing cone on my 357 Magnum Model 19. If I hit the 200 meter rams, it would topple. But the rainbow trajectory was brutal. I had to...

    A very SPECIAL 44

Not that difficult, at least 7-8 years ago .I got a 3" Lew Horton Special M624, a 4" and 6-1/2" S&W M624 within a few months of each other. Model 24's (blued revolvers) are another matter. I have a mid-2000 Classic series Model 24 but I've never seen an original Model 24 S&W revolver.

    Bond Arms

Precision shooting with a Bond derringer is iffy at best. I bought a Bond derringer with the idea it would be a carry pistol while I was bush hogging the pastures. I was looking to dispatch small rodents from the field. But even with the 6 foot or so shooting distance from the tractor seat with...

    Gun show find

Nice looking shotgun. Working double triggers is an acquired "taste". I grew up shooting a 28 ga side by side with doubled triggers and it became second nature to shoot the second barrel. When I got in to competitive skeet with an over/under, that skill went away to some extent. It is...

Optic or no optic on your defense handgun?

I have one handgun with a red dot optical sight. It really does not set my life on fire. But, give one a try.

    Is it really “OCD”??

If you feel good about your brass prep procedures, you will feel better about your cases and shoot better. I like to clean and tumble brass after sizing. It gets rid of the lubricant, if I use some, or it just gets shiny. Do not underestimate the psych factor in shooting.
