    Heavy profile AR barrel?

The only AR I'll have a heavy profile barrel on is a High Power service rifle. Everything else gets carried and used in the field, so I want it to be light and to handle well. I even consider gov't profile too heavy... mainly it's where the weight is on those. It's a nonsensical "backwards...

Anyone buying and putting away AR lower receivers?

I did that a long time ago, haha... now I'm building them into rifles to sell around election time!

Bill of sale/contract when selling guns?

Option C. No bill of sale, contract, ID, or questions about whether the buyer is prohibited (unless I have reason to believe that they are) -- just free men engaged in voluntary exchange. If anyone asks for paperwork or gov't ID, I walk unless it is a ridiculously good deal.

    Which AR-15 to get?

Colt 6720 for $800. It is preferable to the 6920 IMO, and it's cheaper.

    AR build parties

I would consider the Lightweight and Basic Home Defense builds to be the same thing, and would use a 16" Faxon Gunner barrel (nothing wrong with the BCM ELW barrel that someone else recommended either, but the Faxon is cheaper), Aero upper, PSA/Toolcraft BCG, PSA/Aero lower, PSA LPK, 7075...

Lengthen S&W 'AR' M&P butt stock by 1-2".

I switched all my carbine stocks out for Magpul ACS-Ls for this same reason. They have more than enough length for me... I usually run them one click in from fully extended when shooting NTCH from field positions. The A2 fixed rifle stock is the perfect length for me too. I am a similar...

Well, that was humbling (iron sights at 200 yards).

6 MOA is decent, but you can do better! Keep at it. If you really want to improve your field position shooting with irons sights, bring that CZ to an Appleseed weekend marksmanship clinic: www.appleseedinfo.org. It's the best $60 you will ever spend on training.

    What Ar 15 irons?

For target shooting at distance, you will want some sort of rear sight that is adjustable for elevation (if you plan on shooting past 300 yards or so). Look at what NRA and CMP Service Rifle shooters use on their game guns. "Target shooting at distance" is what those games are all about...

    My First AR-15 - I need help

    Colt 6720 or BCM OEM.

    Seems like now's the time

Yep, now is the time. If you want a good reliable basic fighting rifle, you can't do any better than the Colt 6720 posted above for $800.

Is the AK-74 muzzle brake a detriment?

Ceteris paribus, muzzle brakes always produce a lot more muzzle flash than flash hiders. It is a by-product of how they re-direct the expanding gasses to act against the direction of recoil. Flash hiders just act to diffuse the gasses in a controlled way. Personally, my fighting rifles all...

    Best M1 Carbine in .22

I'd get a 10/22 and put the EAB carbine stock and some Tech Sights TSR-100s on it. Stick with a known reliable rifle.

Ruger Precision Rifle Gen 2 vs. original?

One thing you should always do before buying rings is to get the dimensions of the scope you're mounting and make sure to get the proper height mounting setup for it. The RPR has a 20 MOA receiver rail, so you have to do a little extra math to get the correct clearance. Either that or if you...

So pretty much the cheapest barrel profile and material available.

FR8 & FR7 owners: Show 'em here please.

Here's mine in it's current configuration. The only other thing I might do to it is switch the Fajen stock out for a Choate to save a little more weight.

Talk Me Out of Vortex Strike Eagle

If you say so! It is Chinese glass, so you're not going to be getting the greatest build quality or optical performance, particularly in marginal light conditions. A Burris TAC30/MTAC 1-4x or a Leupold Mark AR Mod 1 1.25-4x would be a lot better glass for around the same price range, and...

    Vortex or Zeiss

The Terra is overpriced for what you get. They want you to see the name and think you're getting German glass (and pay accordingly), when they're really giving you Phillipine glass. I almost fell for it when I first heard about them, since prior to that Zeiss only put out high quality glass...

    Leupold VX-1 vs Redfield Revolution

The Leupold Rifleman would probably be more of an equivalent than the VX-1.

Ruger Precision Rifle Gen 2 vs. original?

I don't know why anyone would have issues mounting a scope on one of these, even with a large objective -- just mount the scope high enough for it to clear. That's why the rifle has adjustable comb height. I mounted the scope on mine the same way I mount them on an AR -- with a YHM 0.5"...

    Advice on an ar-10

Yeah, the trigger is the only difference. My DEF10 is even marked "AR10A" on the lower.
