    h335 Temperature Sensitivity

Not rude at all... I appreciate your honesty. I know it's not a popular choice, but I think the science shows it's perfectly sufficient at close ranges (<100yrds) with modern, bonded bullets. If I was hunting anywhere where I was likely to have more than a 75yrd shot or if I wasn't really...

    h335 Temperature Sensitivity

Hi, everyone. As always, I come here because the community knowledge is just incredible - and incredibly helpful. I live in New England and am getting ready for hunting season. I'm going to attempt to go after deer with a .223. It's legal where I live and, since most of the shots here are...

    Reading the Woods

Thanks, everyone... I appreciate the replies. To be clear, I know that nothing is a substitute for time in the woods and I plan to spend as much time out there as possible. But, I was looking for something that would help prime me for that. If anyone has any book suggestions not in the list...

    Reading the Woods

Hi, everyone. Somewhat seasoned shooter, but very novice hunter. I'm hoping to step it up this year and spend a lot more time in the woods - starting with spring turkey season in a month. I didn't grow up hunting and I haven't been able to get many older, more experienced hunters to take me...

    Link to Video Quest?

Hi... Been discussing the issue of guns and gun rights with my son... Tonight we were talking about how people who have no, or only negative, exposure to firearms can have such a biased opinion about them. It reminded me of a video I saw on here a while ago which I'm hoping someone will...

AR Parts Availability in a Panic or "Post-Ban"

Along this line, I just ordered three stripped lowers from Brownells (the Anderson lowers are on sale there for $40) for the same reason. I'd like to get a couple more stripped lowers early in the new year, and then slowly piece together the rifle builds from there. If there's another panic...

    Sig SP2022 vs M&P9

Hi all... I'm about to pull the trigger on my first handgun purchase... My budget is somewhere around the $500 pricepoint. I've handled both the Sig SP2022 (aka the Sig Pro) and the S&W M&P - both in 9mm. I'm interested to see if any of you have shot the two guns together and have any...

    Cross Eye Dominance

Both of my kids are cross-eye dominant. My son is left-handed, right-eye dominant. My daughter is the opposite. Both of them, thankfully, first shot rifle at our local range's junior rifle program. There they were encouraged to shoot from their dominant eye side. So, they both shoot the...

Magpul/Chris Costa Dynamic Pistol Video Pulled From Youtube

A whole run of the Magpul vids (including the tactical carbine ones) were posted and subsequently pulled because of copyright violations. Assuming this is the same. They were HD rips of the DVDs, including all added featurettes...

    Want to reload

First, to answer your question... The construction of the RCBS is much more 'substantial' than the Lee. While both can last a long time, I think that you can expect the average RCBS to outlast an average Lee of the same 'level'. The question is how much reloading you plan to do and whether you...

Actual rifle set up for shooting from a helicopter?

FWIW, I think the Coast Guard is doing some of this... They use a system of cable supports to steady the rifle. I'd be surprised if this is available to civilians. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1snF6PF0UTA

"Got .22 Long Rifle Ammo ?"

    1) From a business perspective, I have no issue with prices rising in a shortage... If you have a stockpile you want to sell at a substantial markup, good for you. 2) While wanting to be careful not to villify or name-call, I *do* think some people are taking the profiteering thing a little...

    Pellets

I guess I was tripping on your use of the word 'power'. I agree that heavier pellets lose velocity quickly in a magnum springer... But I don't think the drop-off in power is quite as severe. Even PCP or CO2 air rifles fire heavier pellets (of a given caliber) at slower velocities than they...

    Remington 870 or Mossberg 500

I recently bought a Mossberg 535 pump - it's a 500 that accepts 3.5" magnum shells. I want to do some waterfowl hunting and friends suggested getting a gun that will take the bigger loads even if you never wind up using them. I compared the Mossie to the comparable 870 (SuperMag, I think)...

How far do you shoot your air rifle?

With the right pellet (Diana 34s are notoriously finicky), lots of practice re: artillery hold/trigger control, and ideal conditions, I would imagine that you'd be able to consistently somewhere on a 8+ inch steel circle at 100 yards. By consistently, I don't mean nearly 100% of the time - but...

    Pellets

Not to sound like a hater, but can you explain the first half of that statement? I'm confused trying to understand what you mean. edit: If this constitutes a threadjack, feel free to PM me instead. :)

best 55GR hunting bullet for 223

I don't know about 55gr bullets... All I shoot in that range are Hornady's 55gr FMJBTs. I've heard excellent things from hunters using the Nosler 60+gr Partitions and 62+gr Barnes TSXs. I'm going to be hunting whitetail with a .223 this fall, so I'll be watching this thread for other ideas.

Bought AR Lower Kit - Any Fluff-n-Buff Needed Before Assembly?

If you're a polish the trigger surfaces guy, you should do that up front... but, otherwise, you're good to go.

In a perfect world, what rifle setup would you want to equip our troops with?

I agree with other posters... Given the current options, the M4/M16 family of rifles are hard to beat in terms of function, versatility, etc. I think the best improvement we can make is to improve the ammunition we're using. The Mk262 loads are a start...
