Arsenal Firearms AF20011 double barrel 1911 Good idea or not?

I don't know if Andre the Giant could've reached the trigger on that thing.

Why so much disdain for the .25 acp?

I think what many of the responders are trying to say, is that while a .25 auto may be one of the least imposing of the weapon choices out there, it's not necessarily the lightest recoiling; and it's certainly had a questionable history as a defensive round. Recoil Sensitivity: There are...

.410 ga. in revolver for handy varmint control

If I were in your shoes, I'd use the same thing I used as a kid on the farm I grew up on. A good air rifle. You shoot a .410 out of a short pistol barrel at anything over five or ten feet, and you're liable to have shot going places you don't want it to. A good pellet rifle will take care of...

How could I have better reacted to this threat?

Gamestalker - While I'm not elderly (I'm 47), I have Multiple Sclerosis so I know what it is to be at a physical disadvantage. I carry concealed because I feel safer not advertising that I have one. I am very careful about where I am/go, and if I feel the least bit uncomfortable I leave if...

    Shooting without prescription glasses

These two posts mirror both my nearsightedness, and my approach to shooting without my glasses. In other words, at other than bad breath distances I wouldn't think of it.

    Fantastic idea.

The value of just walking away

So was I. And so I imagine were most of the people on this forum, but not everyone was. Some people are raised to kill other people at the tiniest offense, for a pair of basketball shoes, for twenty-three dollars and a Timex watch, for another days worth of drugs. And some people are...

    when you carry a hammer...

My concealed carry license is not a badge, nor carte blanche to enforce the law. It's permission for me to legally carry a concealed firearm to protect myself from deadly violence; nothing more. I'm a nearly fifty year old Multiple Sclerosis patient, and it's been a long time since my best days...

    when you carry a hammer...

I would argue that (depending on where it's happening) what is transpiring in your scenario may well BE illegal. Harassment and/or verbal assault is considered criminal in many jurisdictions. Regardless, ultimately the decision about whether or not it's a crime belongs to local law enforcement...

And if Dunn had, he wouldn't be in jail right now.

The value of just walking away

I won't try to speak for anyone else, but 'risk' is the only reason I don't confront people. If I knew ahead of time that every comment and request would be met with instant compliance and a pleasant 'Why thank you sir, I hadn't noticed I was creating a problem', I'd do it all the time. However...

The value of just walking away

Not to mention, that every time some hot-head shoots someone when he had another, better option, it makes it that much easier for the anti-gun folks to win their argument.

The value of just walking away

I am what they call in my neck of the woods, a 'big ol boy'; 6'4" and in my prime 225 pounds of pretty solid muscle. When I was a much younger man, I used to enjoy going to bars/saloons/clubs for a drink or several. After the fifth or sixth fight I was challenged to simply because my head stuck...

The value of just walking away

^^^^^ This right here. I have a good friend who lives on the outskirts of a very troubled urban neighborhood. He always maintained that he had the 'right' to take his evening walks through that neighborhood, and no one could dissuade him from it (and believe me I tried). He spent the better...

    Ignorant statement of the day....

My next door neighbor (70 years old) keeps free range chickens. I've been trying to explain to him that the only thing he needs roosters for is more chickens, the hens can lay eggs all by themselves. Of course I "Don't know what I'm talking about" so he has lots and lots of chickens. As my...

    when you carry a hammer...

As has already been mentioned, the story so far makes me think it was an entirely avoidable situation. It's hard to talk firearm strategy when the only responsible option was to shut up and leave.

Colt Detective Special - rebarrel ?

I couldn't agree more. As good as the Third Generation Colts are, I find the earlier Detectives Specials are easier to shoot. Seconded. Finding a good double action Colt gunsmith is a real chore these days, and not a task to be taken lightly.

Colt Detective Special - rebarrel ?

Do as you please; but... I have a third generation Detective Special, and it's a fine firearm; but I never stop looking for an earlier D.S.. They're on my list of 'grail' guns. If I were in your shoes, I'd shoot it as is for a while. Who knows, you might decide to keep it just like it is.

    Buttery Smooth Triggers

The best trigger of any gun I own is the S&W 15-3 I inherited from my dad. It was his duty piece while he was on uniform patrol, and is a fantastic shooter.
