Changed Mossberg 500 mag tube spring

The Winchester segemented slugs upon fragmenting have the energy of a .40 S&W round at the muzzle almost and can end up traveling almost perpendicular to the original line of travel of the slug. If I can find the pictures from my agencies testing of them, one segment went almost straight up and...

Over-under or Semi for clay games?

@Armored farmer Thanks for the break down, that helped. I think I'm going to do what most gun owners would do, do both! My current gun is a Winchester Super X model 1 which is a great trap gun, but a little unwieldy for sporting. I think I'll leave that one be as my dedicate trap gun, and go...

Over-under or Semi for clay games?

I currently shoot trap and sporting, with the occasional round of skeet to mix it up. As I am progressing, I'm trying to decide if I should spend the money on an over under, or upgrade/replace my current semi-auto. Is there any intrinsic advantage to one system over the other? I know that the...

    Beretta a300 or a400?

I had actually considered Briley's but I want to keep this barrel original. If I can find another one, I will send it to them to be threaded for thin wall chokes.

    Thank you those are helpful.

    Beretta a300 or a400?

Short background, I recently have gotten into the clay sports. I picked up a used Winchester Super X1, a high 4 digit serial, and as far as I can tell all original. Great shooting gun, but a 30" full choke barrel isn't exactly the greatest option for sporting clays or skeet (though it sure ink...

    3D Printed Shot Shells??

I was thinking overshot card and use water glass or something similar to stick it. You'd definitely have to play with it to get the shot column the right height.

    Semi auto shotgun question

I get people being testy, but there's a very simple answer if you value the finish on your gun that much. Take a step back. There is nothing in the rules about time limits to get ready etc, so just step back when it's your turn to shoot and get settled. It's not a race. For those who feel it...

    Semi auto shotgun question

You haven't been around a lot of trap shooters have you? Opinions range from banning semi's from the sport entirely to silent annoyance.

    Bullseye and/or CMP... First Steps?

The type of optics allowed in Bulleyes, simply allow you to see your point of aim more clearly, no more, no less. The make your wobble area apparent, real apparent, and some shooters never get over that and will snatch the trigger rather than press it due to this. They do create another...

Thinking about getting a shotgun. Semi auto vs pump and mag vs tube fed

Running a magazine system on a shotgun does remove one of the advantages of the tube magazine, the ability to incrementally plus up the gun. In any magazine fed system, you have to make the decision if you have enough ammo in the magazine for whatever is next. If you decide no, with a magazine...

    HV loads in shotguns

I might recommend this thread: HD/SD Patterning test | The High Road Scroll down to the Hornady Light Magnum and compare it to the TAP shell which is the next set of pictures. Identical wads and pellets, just vastly different powder charges (1600 fps vs 1100).

    Shotgun ignoramus seeks ammo advice

The ISSF standard to break a clay in international competition is about .6nm on their little testing jig. It works out to about 4.4 ft bls on an area the size of a 1/4" circle. So the smaller size of the pellet means the energy is more concentrated (ie you can probably get away with a bit less...

Have video games hurt the reputation of shotguns?

The first is statistically the most likely killer of young men. You'd have been safer drinking. We're not even going to get started on all the negatives of the second.

    Winchester Super X1 not cycling

So it turns out after I finally got the piston head off, it is missing the inner piston ring. This ring is what actually creates the gas seal to allow the gas system to function. Got one on order, so that should hopefully solve that issue.

    Winchester Super X1 not cycling

I recently purchased a Super X1 off of gunbroker, the seller advised the bolt would only partially cycle when fired, not ejecting the hull. I received the gun yesterday and broke it down to clean it. The buffer appeared to be in good condition, showing very little wear. The return spring...

    Buckshot Vs Magazines

Getting whacked in a soft armor panel with a slug will spread the energy out over a larger area, but you're still looking at broken/cracked bones and bruised or ruptured internal organs. I will completely agree that is still a whole lot better than not having the vest. One drill we used to do...

    Recommendation a shotgun for clays

For those that like closure, I ended up going with the Super-X. Price was extremely good, so even if I don't like I won't be in a hole.

    Recommendation a shotgun for clays

Interesting, a bit more than I was looking to spend but it certainly seems like an excellent answer. I'm going to ruminate on the 1100 and A300, see if anyone has one in town I can check out.

    Trap/Skeet shell reloading savings?

Well down here in Texas we have these, and last week they had the Aguillas for $6.99. Great shell? Not really, but for where I'm at in all this perfectly acceptable. So my 28-30 cent figure was with free hulls, just primer, powder, shot, and wad. At the moment I am no where near serious...
