My precedence is that I don't believe cops are special people. They are capable of all the things any other person is capable of. I don't think it's prudent to put your personal safety in the hands of someone else, especially when they have no real incentive to protect you.

I didn't say don't have a cop. But I'm not going to say I'd trust them any more than anyone else. I would rather take responsibility for my own safety.
I take immense issue with this. Being in a building where one person has the means to harm everyone and no one else can do anything about it is very uncomfortable.
It's great that you got your gun back and most importantly no charges were pressed against your wife, but, why would you rather depends on larger and arguably no more effective calibers when the one you used appears to have done the job just fine?
A simple pass through is not going to give you the same magnitude of wounding that something like a fragmenting rifle round will. I recall from a dissertation on bullet wounds by a surgeon that was posted here that there is not much they can do for rifle wounds while most times a pistol round...
No one's said WHY he was in the club yet. Perhaps making a delivery or picking up a friend? One thing I do know is that they stole his firearm, regardless of what he did.
There wouldn't be a discussion if this were anyone other than an officer. They deserve jail time at the very least because you know that's where any one of us would be.
