    16-guage Short Tom

Snake gun! Especially with minishells. With 16ga slug, bear gun. Small enough and light enough to take along when you might not take along a full size shotgun. Good save of a still useful old gun. (I have seen and heard of muzzle devices like that permanently installed on too short barrels to...

How Many of You Shorten Your Stock to Customize LOP?

Of dozens of shotguns and rifles I have owned over 60 years, I have shortened one shotgun stock and one .22 rifle stock for length of pull. I sold off one shotgun, 12ga 3.5" turkey gun held as collateral on a loan that never got paid off, because the gun was proportioned for Andre the Giant and...

    so called cowboy "assault rifles"

Florida passed laws in 1890s requiring permits for Winchester repeaters and Colt revolvers. So some saw them as especially dangerous.

    Colorado Weapons Ban

There is massive non-compliance with the Canadian federal government's assault weapon ban in the Provinces of Canada. Provincial governments have told the federal goverment they are not going after gun ownrts. There is resistence to registration including rallies where people burn registration...

    Strange explanation at the range.

Last time I shot at an indoor range*, shooters were expected to police their own brass. Banning steel jacket and "bimetal" (steel jacket with a copper or brass plating) makes sense for an indoor range a with normal back stop for copper jacket lead or plain lead bullets. ______ * Gunshop with...

    Anyone try Sterling 7.62x39?

Most 7.62x39mm firearms were designed for steel case ammo. I have decided against steel case ammo for 5.56x45mm and .30 Carbine after comparing extractors between my Yugo M70AB2, AR15 and M1 Carbine. AR15 and M1 Carbine were designed, developed and approved with brass cased ammo. On the other...

Over heard at a local gun range.

Does keeping enough factory ammo in each caliber/gauge for an estimated 5 years of normal usage count as hoarding? My regret is that I used to buy an estimated year's need of primers at the end of a season (couple of sleeves of MLR and MSP) to be able to load for the next year's matches.

Over heard at a local gun range.

I have seen 100rd round boxes of .22 LR periodically disappear from the shelves and stay gone for awhile. Panic buyers hear a rumor there will be a shortage and have every member of their family buy the store limit of 3 boxes a customer (and send them back the next day for more). Self...

    10% over max powder?

Resemblance of the powder used in factory loads versus commercial powders used for reloading can be deceiving.

    Is it really “OCD”??

Dull and dirty can hide problems with fired brass. I clean and inspect before sizing.

Jury finds NRA officers violated responsibilities

Wayne LaPierre gets a $17 million gold parachute for all he had done for the NRA? Wayne LaPierre deserves a $199 iron anvil for all he has done to the NRA.

Using small and large rifle primers for all reloading including pistol revolvers too

That's been my experience. Past couple of years I have had to use Large Pistol Magnum Primers for black powder rifle cartridges; would not recommend that for smokeless powder rifle cartridges. These recent and variable droughts of what used to be common off the shelf items is getting annoying.

    It's called a "Heal"?

I am confused. My rifles' butts have heels and toes. But no heals. (And if butts have heels and toes shouldn't they be called soles?)

In my limited experience, that's right.

M-1A/M-14 gas system - just learned about the external "Spindle Screw"...almost planned to take rifle to gun smith. Relief !

It is called a "spindle valve" not really a screw. It was designed to be depressed and turned with a cartridge rim. Most people ignore them until they are totally frozen in place.

Help identifying historic rolling block-ish rifle

Looks like a European Flobert style garden gun. Single shots popular in their day for target practice and pest control. Someone more specialized and knowledgeable than me should come along shortly with more detail.

    9mm 1911 ,who would want one ?

9mm 1911 who would want one? Someone (me) familiar with the .45 1911 who does not have a 9mm pistol but can find cheap 9mm ammo locally and does not want to learn a new manual of arms.
