what to inspect when acquiring a used 1100/1187

You should get a guarantee that it's working (or your money back), or you should take it out and test it. They work like any semi-auto rifle, except that they load like any tube fed shotgun. They are only a smidge more difficult to field strip than a pump, and then only if you're playing...

I'm looking to sell my 11-87. What are you planning on using it for? Deer? Trap? Birds?

Leaving IL, what to do with my guns

I left Illinois 5 years ago. Legally, you can take anything that is legally yours. You should transport them according to Federal guidelines which guarantee how you can legally take them across state lines. Your easy options are: 1. Let the movers handle it (which is a bad idea). 2. unloaded...

I'm such an idiot, how can I tell if my bore is scratched?

Ditto on what's been said. (1) It was an aluminum or brass rod, which is much softer than steel and won't "gouge" it with any significance. Even a steel rod won't "gouge" the inside of a barrel. If the bore was chrome lined, you're even better off as chrome is harder than steel. Don't...

    Best .22 for a youngster

Henry Mini-bolt has a youth sized grip, and is stainless & synthetic. The stock isn't cheesy, with nice checkering in the grip. Both my kids learned to shoot a rifle with this gun, and even now I like to pick it up and see what I can hit with it.

Any one else tired of the multiple cartridges that do the same thing?

Most improvements should be in terms of projectile design instead of niche cartridges. I could get by for all my needs with those calibers that were developed within the last 47 years. .22lr .38spl/.357magnum .44spl/44magnum 9mm 45ACP .30-30 .30-06 .308 7.62x39 .223 300 magnum

    Loading FAL

The dimensional differences between 7.62x51 & .308 are insignificant, especially when talking about feeding problems. The Gunsmith is wrong.

    A Girl's Gun?

When my wife saw my S&W Model 36 she called it a "Charlie's Angels gun". Taking her to the range with it changed her mind.

    Budget auto?

The 3913 should be reliable, accurate, and about as slim as 9mm's get. It's especially good if you've got smallish hands. But if you want more than 7 (or 8) rounds, you might look into a used S&W 6906 (a double stack version of the 3913) for 12 rounds/mag.

    First 9mm handgun??

Of the ones you listed, get the Glock 19. It offers advantages in having a proven history and being light and concealable. Store it in a holster, and learn to keep your finger WAY out of the trigger guard unless you're preparing to fire it.

    Sights for Sore (old) Eyes

T.J. My eyes sound a LOT like your eyes. My problem is astigmatism. When I lean my head against the stock to get a cheek weld the sights go blurry (not as bad with a peep sight, but still not good). But no problem with pistols because my head stays upright. My brother (an optometrist)...

Rudy Claims Evolution On Gun Rights

Rudy is a political whore who will change his "makeup" (to the point of plastic surgery) to get you in his bed. I'm not going there.

I went with the AR-15...Now what Scope?

I'm in the same boat with the bad eyes (mostly astigmatism for me). But first, what's the difference between 1 & 2? I thought all their products were Holographic Diffraction Sights (HDS), marketed as Holographic Weapons Sights (HWS). 1.EOTech HDS Holographic Diffraction Sight 2.EOTech...

    sks range report

Mostly a repeat of what's been said: 1. Get rid of the bipod, use a rest (like a sandbag) under the STOCK (not the barrel). Bipods on barrels are only good for full size machine guns. 2. The gas tube mount is suspect (as are receiver cover mounts) and unrelaible - only a receiver mount can...

How often do you takedown your ruger .22?

I've taken two approaches to avoid field stripping every time I shoot it, but if you field strip every time you should get pretty quick at it. First approach is to use Q-tips (with Breakfree) to clean things up a little, and especially to clean out the chamber. My biggest problem is that...

    Sharpening titanium?

Titanium is a "gummy" metal as compared to steel. A file will remove small hard chips from a piece of steel, but will be more likely to get "gummed up" by Titanium (in this regard it's similar to Aluminum). I wouldn't expect Titanium to hold an edge very well at all.

I've about had it with Remington 1100s

I've had no problems with an old (1970's) 1100. Shot or slugs, works every time. I have had a problem with the "feed latch" (which keeps shells in the tube from falling out until the action is opened) on my 11-87. It fell out when I took everything apart to detail clean it. I've been told...
